I met Michael when I was 19 through our mutual best friend Stephen Shepherd, from the moment we met we fell in love and were together for an amazing 5 years and later in life another 2 years. He taught me how to love and for that I will always be grateful. He was always happy and quick to make all those around him laugh and feel included. I was 4 inches taller than he was, a little uncomfortable about it, but he made it seem like it was the coolest thing ever. Thanks for the love Michael, you've always had my heart.

In 1968, with 260$, mostly in coins that we kept in a coffee can (tips from my waitress job), Mike West and I set out from San Diego in a 1956 VW bug. Our destination was Newport News, Virginia, Langley Air Force Base. The VW belonged to another of our classmates, Mike Nichols. He had been drafted into the military and was based in Virginia and we agreed to deliver his car to him. It was a wonderful adventure. I kept a journal along the way or many of the details would have been lost. We camped out at state parks, slept in the car and even went into a few police stations and requested to sleep in cells to get out of the cold. We picked up hitch-hikers, ate unfamiliar food, saw monuments and drove through the segregated South. Mike West was in my kindergarten class. I have known him all life. Our lives converged numerous times throughout the years. We had wonderful adventures in Southern California. Years later in Napa, we found solace in each other's company after we had both been divorced. He will always be an honorary "Drifter", the Director of the Attache Case, and the best dancer our class produced. I can't quite imagine a world without him. Dear Michael, peace and love to you wherever you are soaring and love and comfort to family and friends. Patricia Raven (aka Patti Fegley)
