Burkburnett - Lee Leonard Wood, Jr., 73, passed away Wednesday, January 6, 2021.

The family will receive friends between 6 and 8 p.m. Monday, January 11, 2021 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett. Graveside service will be 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 12, 2021 at the Pavilion in Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery with Rev. Ronnie Lawson, officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home in Burkburnett.

A son of the late Lee L. Wood Sr. and Juanita Graham Wood, Lee was born on October 4, 1947 in Winnfield, Louisiana. He served our country proudly in the United States Air Force during Vietnam, and retired as a Staff Sergeant. He also served in the United States Coast Guard Reserves and was activated during Desert Shield and Desert Storm. Lee retired in 1995 from the Coast Guard Reserves with the rank of Chief Petty Officer. On July 25, 1969, he married the love of his life, Brenda, while stationed at Barksdale AFB in Bossier City, Louisiana. Lee was a graduate of Northwestern State University receiving a BA Degree in 1974. He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, fish, and ride his bicycle. Lee took multiple hunting trips out of state to New Mexico and Colorado over the years, but his favorite was a deer hunt on the famed King Ranch in South Texas. Lee was a triathlete when he was younger, but focused more on cycling once he moved to Texas. He rode in the HHH approximately 25 times, many times with lifelong Louisiana friends Charlie Bice and Tommy Harrel. Lee was an active member of Thornberry Baptist Church and participated in a Tuesday night Men's bible study in Wichita Falls.

Lee moved his young family west from North-Central Louisiana seeing that jobs in the timber and lumber industry that he worked in were declining. In 1988, he took a position at Howmet Corporation in Wichita Falls and worked there until he retired. Lee retired in 2004 as Manager of Human Resources. After that, Lee began a second career in the moving and storage industry working for numerous companies, as both an employee and contractor until his death.

Along with his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Brenda Wood.

He is survived by his three sons, Lenny Wood and wife Tamera of Midland, Graham Wood and wife Jennifer of Iowa Park, and Ben Wood and wife Shelah of Lubbock; his brother, Wayne Wood and wife Gilda of McKinney; and twelve grandchildren, Lorrie, Tyler, Logan, Houston, Caitlyn, C.J., Jake, Berkley, Thatcher, Kaylee, Brylee, and Charlie.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made in honor of Lee to Hospice of Wichita Falls, 4909 Johnsons Rd., Wichita Falls, TX 76310.

The Wood families, I worked with Lee at Howmet for 14 years. Lee taught me more about HR issues that I still use today. I also remember our conversations about his involvement with y’all and your scouting endeavors. I could always tell how much he loved your mom, Brenda, and how proud he was of each of you. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your families at our loss of Lee.

A man anyone would be proud to call their Dad. Mr. Lee will always be warmly remembered as a loving person with a big heart. We got to know him as we raised our oldest son with Lenny & Tamera’s daughter. It was always a joy to get to see Mrs. Brenda and Mr. Lee - because you KNOW they’d make you laugh and you’d leave with a smile. Lee saying about our son - “What are you feeding him? Shorts and corn?!” Those smiles have turned into forever memories ~ Prayers for The Wood Fanily. We love y’all.
