Melissa Detrick Obituary

Melissa Carol Detrick

Melissa Carol Detrick was called home to her heavenly Father on January 20, 2018. While her time in this life was much shorter than we would have hoped, she made the most of everyday. She leaves a legacy of unconditional love and dedicated service in all areas of her exemplary life.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 at Faith Baptist Church in Wichita Falls with Jeff Nacol Turnbo officiating. The family will receive visitors at the church following the Memorial Service. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.

The first-born child of Charles L. Buckholtz and Rebecca Patton Hoving, Melissa Carol Buckholtz was born May 28, 1965 in Wichita Falls, TX. She graduated from Wichita Falls High School in 1983, the place where she met Michael Detrick whom she would marry on Oct. 20, 1984 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Wichita Falls. Melissa attended Midwestern State University. After nine years of marriage Melissa and Michael Detrick were unexpectedly blessed with the birth of two children, Samuel Adam Detrick who was born on June 30, 1993 and then Erin Grace Detrick who was born on April 17, 1996. They were and remain gifts straight from her heavenly Father.

Melissa began working as a teenager at the Wichita Falls Times Record News in 1982. She rose from a clerical position in the classified advertising department to a top producing retail advertising account executive. Her career path then led her from print media to television and then radio advertising sales and sales management having worked for Fox Broadcasting and Clear Channel Communications. She left the workforce in 2003 to focus all of time on her family. Melissa licensed as a real estate agent in 2014 to join her husband in the family business, Nortex Realty.

Melissa was universally loved by all who knew her. She was compassionate and generous in all areas of her life. Her thoughts and actions were always focused on the needs of others. She was unwavering in her convictions, never allowing the trials and tribulations of her life to cause her to question her innate moral compass. She had a playful and fun nature. She was a loving wife, dedicated mother and loyal friend to many. She bravely faced all challenges including serious health issues most of her adult life.

Melissa is survived by her husband of 33 years and their two children, all of Wichita Falls; her mother Rebecca Hoving and husband, Nick Hoving, of Wichita Falls; her father Charles L. Buckholtz of Childress, TX; her brother Jon Buckholtz and wife, Holly Buckholtz, of Conroe, TX; her brother-in-law Danny Detrick and wife, Leslie Detrick, of Bedford, TX; her sister-in-law Amy Allibon and husband, Rob Allibon, of Fort Worth, TX; her sister-in-law Emily Detrick of Austin, TX; and nieces and nephews Carter Buckholtz, Christopher Detrick, Hannah Detrick and Reese Mayfield.

The family respectfully requests memorial contributions to River Bend Nature Center in Wichita Falls or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society in lieu of flowers.
