Sutton, Helen Jane SELKIRK Helen Jane Sutton, 85, died peacefully in the comfort of her home November 2, 2017, after a long illness. Helen was born in Albany on December 7, 1931, the daughter of the late Jenny and Louis Peterson. She was a 1949 graduate of Altamont High School, and began working as a secretary immediately after graduation. She worked as a secretary until she married and began raising a family. Helen met her husband, James P. Sutton, while square dancing at Pat's Ranch in Altamont in October of 1952. They were married nine months later in the McKownville Methodist Church on June 27, 1953, and celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary this past June. Helen enjoyed bowling and bowled in a league for 50 years starting in the church lanes at the First Reformed Church of Bethlehem then at Del Lanes. She was also a devoted Yankees fan. In addition to her husband Helen is survived by sons, James Mark (Sandy) and Brian Louis (Karen); sister, Myrtle Oathout; grandchildren, Danielle Riggi (Kevin), Bo, James V. (Danielle) and Momo Sutton; and great-grandchildren, Aidan Riggi and Zooey Sutton. Helen was predeceased by her brothers, Louis and Robert Peterson. A special thanks to close friend Linda Proper for her help and support during this difficult period. Family and friends are invited to pay respects at the Babcock Funeral Home, Ravena on Sunday, November 5, from 2 to 4 p.m. There will be a brief prayer service immediately following the wake at the funeral home.
