To the John Hasty family:
I was shocked, and saddened when I read the blade and discovered the passing of John Hasty (Reverend Hasty to me.)
At the age of 17 years of age, I was enlightened and inspired by the messages and examples of wonderful character by the individual standing at the pulpit of the AI Christian Church every Sunday morning.
Many Sundays John would fly his plane to church. He would land in Zelva McQuillen's field just west of the Ai church. The plane was special because it had a variable pitch propeller and that allowed better climbing ability. What a majestic picture to watch him land and take off with the plane. I will never forget.
As a young man, Rev. Hasty introduced me to the evangelism that he harbored within. He was selected to be the guest speaker at Lincoln Bible College. He asked me to fly with him in his plane to Lincoln. What a wonderful experience. I even had a chance to take over the controls for a short time. After college John interviewed me for a position at McTigue Jr.Hi School.
My own career followed a path of 46 years in education which included teaching, administration, and working in Distance Education at BGSU. After leaving the college, I took a position at Ottawa Hills H.S. This was part of the Hasty Hills Housing Development. At various times I would stop at the Hasty Marathon Station to update myself on how the John Hasty family was doing. He brought wonderful memories and inspiration to my life, my family and my career. Prayers and blessings to Mrs.Hasty (Evelyn) and to all of the family.

Much Love, Duane F. Elliott

My children and I attended Boulevard Church of Christ when John was pastor there. I remember he was a wonderful preacher. I remember being touched by personal things he shared like when he and Ginger shared the Valentine cards they gave each other. My deepest sympathy and prayers go out to Ginger and the family.

Our deepest sympathy to the family. Ginger, I know you will miss John so much. May it be a comfort to you to know so many of us thought so highly of John and won't forget him. What a wonderful, talented preacher and teacher who shared his life so selflessly with his congregation. Surely God has great plans for John in Heaven. A very good and faithful servant he was and still is.
