Dr. Richard M. Cressey
Dr. Richard M. Cressey passed away unexpectedly on November 8, 2017. He was an emergency and internal medicine physician at Lawrence General Hospital, Lawrence, MA.
Dr. Cressey was born on November 29, 1944 in Hinsdale, IL and grew up in Downers Grove, IL and Naperville, IL. After graduating with the Class of 1962 at Naperville Community High School, he earned a BS at Baldwin Wallace College, an MS at University of Toledo, and an MD at Medical College of Ohio, now University of Toledo College of Medicine and Life Sciences. He went to Massachusetts for internship and residencies at Salem and St. Elizabeth's Hospitals in Salem. Dr. Cressey was a leader in professional organizations and kept current in his medical specialties, especially critical care. His love of knowledge and compassion for others were evident throughout his life. He lived by "The Physician's Prayer" by Maimonides that his Medical School Class of 1986 recited at graduation. Known as a doctor who had true love for his patients and medicine, he shared his love and wisdom with all who knew him; he will be greatly missed.
A humble man, Dr. Cressey enjoyed libraries, museums, trips to visit family across the country, ballroom dancing, big-name artist concerts, and visits to Nantucket.
Dr. Cressey is survived by his sister, Carolyn Cressey Raber and her husband Richard of Wheaton, IL, nieces Suanne Raber Koster (Ryan) of Aspen, CO and Renee Raber Albritton (Robert) of Chicago, IL, and great-nephews Anderson Remeny Koster and Marcus Dean Albritton.
Dr. Cressey was preceded in death by his mother Sarah Moore Cressey in 1956, his mother Helen Alcorn Cressey in 1993, and his father Ralph Ewell Cressey in 1997.
Interment was held in Washington, Iowa on December 9, 2017. A memorial service will be held at South Church, Andover, MA on January 13, 2018.
In lieu of flowers, the Dr. Richard M. Cressey Memorial Fund has been established at Lawrence General Hospital for medical equipment to be used in the Emergency Center. Donations may be sent to Lawrence General Hospital, 1 General St., Lawrence, MA 01841.

Sorry to learn the passing of Dick Cressey. He was a gentleman and very fond of medicine. I enjoyed working with him years back. I remember once touring Mass General with him after a scientific meeting. Dr. Cressey will be missed by all those who know him.
