Edmund John "Big Ed" Basista, 85, of Turtle Creek, died Saturday, Feb. 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. Ed is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Dorothy R. (Macherosky) Basista and was the dear father of Edmund Jr., of Turtle Creek, and Joseph (Renee) Basista, of Penn Township. He was the proud grandfather of Joey and Dominic Basista. Ed was preceded in death by his brothers, Joseph (surviving spouse Matilda) Basista and Lawrence (surviving spouse Elizabeth) Basista. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. Ed was an Army veteran and retired from U.S Steel's Edgar Thomson Plant in 1998 with 43 years of service. Big Ed was a member of the Good Shepherd Church and the former St. Michael's Churches in Braddock. He enjoyed numerous family vacations to Virginia Beach. Ed was an avid Pittsburgh sports fan and enjoyed watching all the local sport teams compete. A private blessing service will be held and burial will take place at the National Cemetery of the Alleghenies. Arrangements made by the PATRICK T.
