Janet Straub
July 19, 1965 - May 4, 2021
Gig Harbor, Washington - The sun is shining a little less brightly. Janet Leigh Straub, born on July 19, 1965 passed away unexpectedly after a brief illness on May 4, 2021. Janet lived her life to the fullest and died soon after relocating to Mexico where she was building her dream house, volunteering for an animal rescue and bringing joy wherever she went. She is survived by her beloved son Henry Selfors, her parents, Ellen Schwartz and Gary Straub, her brother Joel and his children Jordan and Taylor. She is also survived by a multitude of friends. Janet loved everybody and they loved her right back. Her laugh still rings in our ears. Her sense of fashion was both a shock and delight. She loved to wear her hair short and liked her makeup with glitter. Her house was a museum of unique finds from thrift stores, garage sales and St Vincent De Paul, mainly in shades of pink.
Janet could make anyone feel at ease. She would meet you once and you were immediately her friend. Her sense of joy and fun was infectious. There will never be another like her.
Those of us who are left behind are devastated by the loss of someone so special, but also grateful that we were once in her orbit. We can share our stories of days and moments spent with her and keep her memory alive.
A celebration of her life is planned for June 13th.
If you wish to donate in her memory, she was volunteering at Dogs of Puerto Angel spay and neuter clinics. They have a Go Fund Me page organized by Claudia Mamet, or donate to your local animal shelter.

Janet’s laughter was infectious. We remember her for the sheer joy and vitality that so casually surrounded her every day. The interaction between Janet and Jennifer made our days at Gig Harbor Florist an adventure in all the good ways. We will never forget those memories. Our deepest condolences to all her family and friends.
