Mark Rorem On Friday, July 10, 2020, Mark Olaf Rorem passed away after a two year battle with ALS. He was 74. Mark was born on April 13, 1946 in Tacoma, WA to Godwin and Helen (Olsen) Rorem. On March 31, 1973, he married Deanna and they raised two children, Jonelle (Stansbury) and Todd Rorem. Mark received his undergraduate degree from California Lutheran University in 1968 and later his masters from PLU. He went on to teach for 47 years in the Puyallup School District. In 1982, Mark adventurously led his family on a year-long teacher exchange in Adelaide, Australia. He also worked as a homebound teacher and a tutor. Mark had a love for people. Whether it was at church, on the golf course, or playing with his grandchildren, Mark had a way of making everyone he encountered feel seen. His ability to truly listen was a gift. He was known for his quick wit, his infectious laugh, his kind and compassionate spirit, and his love of God. Mark lived a life of honesty, loyalty, humility, service and integrity. In all that he did, these characteristics were evident. Mark was a blessing to all who knew him and served others generously throughout his life. His impact was far reaching. Mark was preceded in death by his father, Godwin, and his mother, Helen. He is survived by his wife, Deanna, his two children, Jonelle (Eric) Stansbury and Todd (Anne) Rorem, his brother, John (Doris) Rorem, brother, Arthur (Leanne) Rorem, his sister, Sharon (Bill) Klancke, his brother, David (Martha) Rorem, and his six grandchildren, Jena, Mallory, Nathan, Addy, Perla and James. Due to Covid 19, a family only funeral service will be held on August 1, 2020 at Puyallup Nazarene Church but will be live-streamed on https://vimeo.com/440072164/ca5929b18e at 1 P.M. Dear Deanna, Mark’s Memorial Service was really beautiful. Jonell and Todd’s words were so inspiring and heartfelt. The wonderful things that were said about him were were not surprising. His faith and integrity shone through him always. Love, Les and Bonnie

Mr.Rorem was my 5th grade teacher in 1990. He is one of the reasons I am a teacher today. The passion and love he had for people was evident. I remember how animated he would get when he was telling a story. He made learning fun. He taught me that academics were important but so was character. Honestly and integrity were a must. I will always carry those lessons with me. Thank you Mr. Rorem. May God bless your family in this time of sorrow.

Mark’s love for our Savior is simply a part of who he is. He had a genuine love and concern for family, friends, colleagues, and students that truly embraced our Father’s call to love thy neighbor. His every word was kind and gentle, his every deed comforting, encouraging, inspiring. Mark’s ways were Jesus’ ways: he spoke softly, listened intently, and acted deliberately. With a humble heart, Mark met people where they were at without judgment or condemnation. He loved each one of us for who we are.... and we knew it. He embraced everyone with open arms, letting our F’s H S guide his steps.

Truly, Mark was a righteous man who did what was good in the eyes of our Abba. His life is a living testimony to the the love and grace of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, which will not only continue but expand through his children and grandchildren. I am honored and blessed to have known him and to serve as one of his daughter’s teachers. We will miss Mark for while, until we are called home, and his legacy will continue serving the purposes our Father intended. Thank you, Mark, for touching my life. May your family find comfort in knowing you walk with Christ in Hs Kingdom. In Jss’ name, A!

The words in Mark's obituary describe him perfectly! We loved getting to know Mark through Walk to Emmaus and sharing his love of God. I, too, am a retired teacher and shared in his love of education. He has a beautiful family who will miss him dearly but they are strong in the Lord, and know that he is free from pain and living his eternal life.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Mr. Rorem was my 5th grade teacher at Spinning Elementary. Because of him I discovered a love of Narnia and from there a love for fantasy. He was a very kind soul and helped so many. He was one of my favorite teachers and made a huge impact on my life. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

Living in Roremtown was one of the best years of my life. I still have friends today that I met in Mr. Rorem's 5th grade class at Meeker. What a guy, what a teacher, what a class act. His integrity. He inspired. He advised. He was impactful to my family and so many others, for 47 years, and we love him for that. Be in Peace, Mr. Rorem.

One of the best teachers ever. I had him at Spinning Elementary. He was one person I never forgot. He took a couple of us to see the Harlem Globetrotters once. Thought a lot about him over the years. Would have been nice to say hi and thanks before he passed. He'll be missed.

Rorem Town bucks. I paid peoples rent for their desks so they did not have to sit on floor. He taught me about rent and that if I had extra I could not let others suffer due to not being paid enough to keep their home.

I knew Mark as a neighbor in Tacoma along with his terrific family. I know that he was well liked and respected by his colleagues in the Puyallup school district. I am honored to have known him. My sincerest
sympathy, it is so hard to lose a brother, husband, father and friend. He will serve as a model of humanity for us all.
