Whenever I think of Charlie I smile. Such a kind and brilliant man who was always so refreshing to talk to. We are all lucky to have known him.

It was my pleasure to know Charlie Marner. Charlie was a fine husband, father, and member of the community. The Hannley family shared a special affinity for the Marners since we were both of Catholic belief, were members of St. Joseph's Church, and of large famlies. We would frequently gather at Highland Vista pool on hot summer days. I got to know Charlie especially well as a senior at Rincon HS when his daughter, Mary, (RIP) and I dated.
Charlie would have me sit down with him after I brought Mary home and tell me about his dream to own a Swedish SAAB sports car. Family harmony was maintained by his policy that "the girls take care of the inside of the house while the boys took care of the outside, and the cars". He was a fine man and will be missed by many.

I always enjoyed the times I had the chance to visit with Charlie and Kay. They treated Chris and I like royalty on our visit to Tucson a few years back. To make a long story short, I liked Charlie a lot !

Charlie was a talented engineer and mentor. He would mentor one or two new engineers a year at Hughes. And when I say mentor, they partnered on every project Charlie was involved in for two or three years. You could always tell the difference between someone who was mentored by Charlie and someone who was not. In addition, he had an eye for selecting really nice individuals who "walked the talk" like Charlie did. I was fortunate to know and work with Charlie. Deepest sympathy to his family at this difficult time. Engineering has lost one of their lions. Rest in peace, Charlie. -- Deborah Hendrix, Hughes and Raytheon, 1982-2017

I'm glad I was alive during the life and times of the Famous,Smart and Entertaining Charlie Marner and his loving beautiful spouse Kate.
But who is now going to educate this dumb white African Charlie about the follies of solar power and other engineering fiascos!
I'll miss those chats over Jamison and water Charlie but I also know know you are very happy and and I just know you have a goof, wry, happy smile on your face as you sit on that comfy celestial couch with your arm finally around your beloved Kate and smile at the activities of us mere mortals.

One of my favorite memories from Sweden was a nighttime skiing trip Chuck led through the hills behind the Marner house in Huskvarna. There was enough visibility to see the trail, but it was dark enough to add to the excitement. Only the best fathers would take that kind of responsibility with a group of kids of unknown abilities.

Several decades later, my son told me he & my father had visited "King Charles" after he'd been picked up from Kindergarten at Tuller School. It took a while to figure that one out.

Charles, Kathleen, & Mary were an important part of my childhood. Those days will never be forgotten.

I was saddened to hear of Chuck's passing. He and I worked together on many projects at Hughes. I enjoyed talking with him about history and his time in the Navy aboard the USS Randolph. May he rest in peace.
