My name is Stephen Gaerig, I have been Gary Mallis's neighbor in Scottsdale for the last 24 years.
We met Dorey after Gary and Inge moved in.
Dorey was a lady that loved her family and knew how to have fun.
After attending two Bat Mitzvahs and a wedding with Dorey in attendance, that lady knew how to party! If you don't believe me, I have a picture of Dorey and me at a Bat Mitzvah with Groucho Marx glasses and fake cigars to prove it.
I will miss my turkey carving supervisor----- Every Thanksgiving when I was carving the bird, Dorey was standing at the cutting board, inspecting and critiquing every cut that I made on the turkey-- but most of all, Sneaking-- I mean sampling little pieces of the turkey-- making sure that the turkey was done and the flavor was to her liking. When I had finished carving, and Dorey had finished supervising, we had both eaten our fill of turkey-- before we had even sat down at the table.

What I will miss most about Dorey, and my fondest memories of her were her stories --- one in particular. I think you know which one I am referring to:
"The Female Wrastler" on the private plane from Tucson to Phoenix, carrying a suitcase containing her breastplate -- which was actually the previous days receipts from the wrestling event.
The first time I heard that story, I was crying because I was laughing so hard. Not to mention each time Dorey told that story, it never got old.
Dorey's storytelling was exceptional.
And every time I think about Dorey, I remember this story and SMILE!
There were other stories that Dorey told, but that one was the best by far.

Just think of all the new audiences Dorey has to tell her stories to. She will most definitely be a headliner.

May she rest in peace.

So sorry to hear about Dorleen. She was my mother's best friend for decades. My mother cherished their friendship. When I think of your mother, I think of the good times my mother told me about, including mah jongg games, Dorleen's work at the Shul, their brunches on Sunday mornings in Tucson, their cruises to Alaska and Mexico, and when your mother visited my mother in Los Angeles on 9/11 and couldn't fly home because all air traffic ceased. My mother has continued to talk about Dorleen. My sincere condolences. Peggy

I met this wonderful, beautiful Lady as a student in beauty school. She drove to Phoenix to be my model when I took my test for state board. I have always remembered her kindness and always will. Peace and comfort to her family. Marian Rivera

Dorey has been my dearest friend and the one I considered as my "other mother" for my whole life. Growing up across the street from her, she was always there for me; birthdays, holidays, my Brownie leader and of course, my other menu choice for nightly dinners. Everyday during the summer she would load all her kids up (including me) and take us to the pool where I learned to swim. Then later in life, she hired me to run the office for her Ray Water Company. During those many (daily) years we became even closer, the best of friends. My love and respect for Dorey is without end. No one could of ever been more loving, kind, thoughtful and considerate to me than Dorey. She was my rock, the one I confided in - because - Dorey could always be trusted to keep a secret. I've never met a woman with stronger work ethics than Dorey. She worked at the office everyday until the age of 85. She was a business owner, world traveler, smart, funny and had the best memory of anyone I know. I hold the greatest amount of respect and love for my dear friend Dorey Mallis. What a great lady who I will always remember and miss.

My love and condolences to the Mallis family who I consider my own.

Hi Janny, Ronny, Gary, and Harlan!
I was just thinking of Aunt Dory last week. A coincidence. And, sadly now sharing my deepest heartfelt sympathies to you and your extended mispocha.
What an amazing gal. Aunt Dory was brilliant and the best at anything she chose to do (Volunteer, coach, mentor, confidant, exceptional business woman) and told it as it was to be conveyed. Her opinion mattered...no sugar-coating. Kept a secret when I needed her perspectiveas all of us were family'. Aunt Dory supported me with wisdom and guidance. I always knew that I could get the real deal from her.
My mom called her Dorten'. No other name. My goodness they would talk every day. Laughing hysterically at themselves, then at each other. Bev-er-ley as Aunt Dory would pronounce mom's name. Between Mara Lynn Meshel, and our mom's , Anshei never knew they had it so good. Aunt Dory was a rock. A dear, genuine friend to our family. When dad was not well and then passed, Aunt Dory would check in with me to make sure mom was holding up okay. Regardless, where I lived in the USA I would call and she would swing by after work to visit or run an errand for mom. And, at the same time was kind, thoughtful, and selfless to those she welcomed into her life. Her character, integrity, were second-to-none. I know dad, Herbie, Mimie Meshel, Sonny, Mildred Rickles, and Uncle Al will ruffle her feathers again. If they haven't already began.
Wishing you only the best of health through this unfortunate time. A tremendous gracious gift...Aunt Dory. A very rare and exceptional diamond. Humbled and truly fortunate I had the pleasure to have you and Aunt Dory be a part of most of my life (since third grade hebrew school)
With all my love, hugs and kisses.
Steph
