May the God of all comfort strengthen the family during this time of deep sorrow. Those who pass on, God keeps in his memory because they are precious in his eyes. My sincerest condolences. Psalms 116:15

This breaks my heart. What an amazing teacher you were; I was in your 5th grade class at Lyons. I can still see you reading stories, always leaving us dying for more. Thank you for blessing me with your influences. To Mr. Selby's family and friends, thank you for sharing him with all of us.God bless

Uncle Joe, you were such an amazing person, with an uncanny zest for life. You were the best uncle and a second dad to me when my dad couldnt be there. I will forever miss your unique spin you put on life and crazy antics. I will always feel privileged to have been your flower girl when you married my Aunt Pat. I also made sure that when I married Troy he was a man that I could compare to you. Thank you for all your love and inspiration. You will be missed but forever loved. However I am so sorry I still hate Texas Hold Em. No matter how hard you tried.

Thank you Mr. Selby for being the BEST teacher that any kid could ask for. I had you for a 4th grade teacher over 25 years ago and I still remember how your reading aloud brought stories to life. I will never forget your one of a kind voice. You had a way with kids and an understanding and compassion that not many people have. You knew how to reach even the most troubled young souls. You were one of the greatest men I have ever known. Thank you for teaching me. You have touched my soul and you will always have a piece of my heart.

Our hearts go out to the Selby family. Joe and Pat have been in my life for a very long time and they are wonderful family friends. Joe was always so kind, caring, funny and a pleasure to be around. He will be deeply missed by those that had the pleasure of knowing him. We offer our deepest condolences and prayers for healing to you all. Love you! ❤

Mr. Selby,
You were my favorite teacher. Not only that, you were the one who first made me think I might want to be a teacher. And more than that, you taught me to love writing and poetry. I can still see the smile and enthusiasm on your face as you read your own poems alongside ours...One was about riding a roller coaster and the pull of the wind on peoples faces, and the other was about you old sleepovers, watching "some old Burt Lancaster Movie" eating cinnamon toast...I can still picture you reading them. I came to love poetry and writing, still to this day. I credit that to you. I also credit you for the teacher I am today, and the many students I hope to have influenced in similar ways. You are the teacher I've hoped to be like...The impression you left in me is lasting, even to this day. The firm but gentle hand. The warmth and excitement. The genuine care. I'm sure I speak for many of your former students when I say what a lasting positive impression you left on me, that has literally lasted my lifetime. I cannot properly express the value or the gratitude I have. I wanted to tell you these things myself. I hope that you can find these words and somehow know my feelings from your place in heaven. The impressions you left will never leave me. I thank you. Sincerely. With Love. Rest In Peace Mr. Selby.
Sincerly,
Bryan

Joe was my daughters fourth grade teacher, she loved being in his class. What a nice guy, so sorry to hear of his passing. May the family be filled with wonderful memories to comfort you.
