All of us that play acoustic bass doing that West Coast Blues thing owe an
Incredible depth of gratitude to the great Larry Taylor.
When I heard him playing on the famous Hollywood Fats record
I just loved and still love that sound he brought from the late forties to
early fifties to all of us in the eighties and beyond. What a giant!

I was playing a canned heat album the day before I heard that he passed. He was an Icon and though I never knew him or his family I want the family to know he touched a world of people with his musical talent. It is very sad to be losing many of our wonderful talented brothers and sisters from an era that tried to instill peace and love. All my prayers to the family.

I first met Larry when I photographed the concert he was playing in with Canned Heat, and the other bands, Jefferson Airplane, and Big Brother and the Holding Company. It was in Edmonton, Alberta in 2010. After the show several of the musicians came to my house for a party, and our friendship began. After that we met again several times, enjoyed some good food and wine together, and I always looked forward to seeing the Larry and the guys when they came up our way. It goes without saying that he was a legendary player in the music world, but I really remember him for his friendship, a fun guy to hang with, and I will miss him a lot. Thank you Larry, for the music, and the fun. My condolences to the family. Jack Bawden
