Alice Sarantis Wilson, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 14 in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was born to Louis and Bessie Sarantis on March 6, 1942 in Morehead City, North Carolina. She grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where she helped out in the family restaurant business before graduating from Maury High School in 1960. A true Renaissance Woman, Alice spent time in Greece, Chicago and New York before settling in Washington D.C., where she worked at Air America and on Capitol Hill for Senator Wallace Bennett. It was there she met Jon Spence Wilson, who she later married in 1968. Alice and her family traveled extensively through her husband's work and she brought her love of many things to new friends she encountered worldwide. She embraced the lonely and favored equally, offering both compassion and opportunity alike. Her love of cooking saw her teach culinary classes in various countries and she used that knowledge to start a catering company and cookie gift basket business. Her love of animals saw many of God's creatures grace her family and resulted in her starting her thirty-year career and business, Williamsburg Pet and House Sitting. She was also active in supporting the Heritage Humane Society and its Auxiliary, tirelessly making baskets and cookies for their annual Christmas Bazaar. Alice loved life to the fullest and showed a great sense of humor. She displayed a deep generosity and caring rarely seen with her diverse group of friends from all walks of life. She will be deeply missed by her family and plethora of friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her two siblings, Peggy and George, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Vikki Wilson of San Francisco, California; her son, William Sean Wilson of Williamsburg, Virginia; and her nephew, James Caravas of Richmond, Virginia, and niece, Louisa Cook of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Alice's services will be handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia. The family would like to thank Dr. Pranav Parikh and the entire staff at Sentara Hospital for their care. Due to the COVID-19 virus and its limitations, a family only service will be held. Per Alice's wishes, in lieu of flowers please donate to Heritage Humane Society.
