Alice Sarantis Wilson, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 14 in Williamsburg, Virginia. She was born to Louis and Bessie Sarantis on March 6, 1942 in Morehead City, North Carolina. She grew up in Norfolk, Virginia, where she helped out in the family restaurant business before graduating from Maury High School in 1960. A true Renaissance Woman, Alice spent time in Greece, Chicago and New York before settling in Washington D.C., where she worked at Air America and on Capitol Hill for Senator Wallace Bennett. It was there she met Jon Spence Wilson, who she later married in 1968. Alice and her family traveled extensively through her husband's work and she brought her love of many things to new friends she encountered worldwide. She embraced the lonely and favored equally, offering both compassion and opportunity alike. Her love of cooking saw her teach culinary classes in various countries and she used that knowledge to start a catering company and cookie gift basket business. Her love of animals saw many of God's creatures grace her family and resulted in her starting her thirty-year career and business, Williamsburg Pet and House Sitting. She was also active in supporting the Heritage Humane Society and its Auxiliary, tirelessly making baskets and cookies for their annual Christmas Bazaar. Alice loved life to the fullest and showed a great sense of humor. She displayed a deep generosity and caring rarely seen with her diverse group of friends from all walks of life. She will be deeply missed by her family and plethora of friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, her two siblings, Peggy and George, and her husband. She is survived by her daughter, Vikki Wilson of San Francisco, California; her son, William Sean Wilson of Williamsburg, Virginia; and her nephew, James Caravas of Richmond, Virginia, and niece, Louisa Cook of Virginia Beach, Virginia. Alice's services will be handled by the Cremation Society of Virginia. The family would like to thank Dr. Pranav Parikh and the entire staff at Sentara Hospital for their care. Due to the COVID-19 virus and its limitations, a family only service will be held. Per Alice's wishes, in lieu of flowers please donate to Heritage Humane Society.

Ms. Alice was such a genuine and caring person. Much like the elephants she so dearly loved, she was always full of personality even during the difficult times of life. The last time I saw her, Ms. Alice told me that my daughter (Preservation Peyton) has spunk and that’s a rare quality these days, I believe that is a quality Ms. Alice had as well. She was a kind, supportive, wonderful woman and she will be greatly missed!!

I work for Suter Printing (formally Kwik Kopy) for 23 years and got to know Ms. Alice. She was absolutely one of the kindest and most compassionate people I know. I love that she was as crazy about animals as I was. I thing think the world has lost a beautiful bright light..

Alice and I became fast friends when our husbands worked together in 1969. She was my 'Golden' friend and we remained so until she left this earth on January 14, 2021.
She changed my world with her unique style and grace. I have been so blessed by her presence in my life.
Good Bye my 'Golden' friend.

I knew Alice for 16 years. She was a loyal customer at Victoria's Restaurant. I was her server for those years. She always had a smile, a kind word and a joke. I will hold you in my memory and in my heart.

Alice was such a kind and compassionate person. She was our neighbor for several years and took care of our many pets for over 20 years when we were away. Our pets always had complications with medication, shots, special diets and she was wonderful and cared for them as if they were her own. She was so thoughtful and caring and will be sorely missed.

She loved to give gifts or information she thought you were interested in. Loved good eating places to visit and recommend to others as her state of approval. Loved animals. Loved helping the needful she meet in her journeys.

Alice was a wonderful friend. We first met her when she cared for our cats each time we were away from home.
When we no longer had our pets we kept in touch with her through the HHS when she baked her delicious cookies for the Bazaar. She will be greatly missed by all and we are sad that she was taken from us so soon.

My Aunt Alice was always a supportive, loving and helpful soul. She was such a kind, caring person and never had anything to say in judgement of someone else. She will be truly missed. Where ever her journey takes her, she will continue to bring joy to the people and places she meets along the way. ❤

We are so saddened to hear of Alice’s passing. Alice used to take me with her to help her dog sit when I was a little girl. She showed me how dogs really are a person’s best friend and I will never forget that. She also visited my parent’s restaurant on the regular to discuss recipes and see what was cooking! We loved her sense of humor and she became very special to our family. She will truly be missed.
