John Charles Golden, Jr. passed away on February 17, 2021. He was born on December 11, 1934 in Bordentown, New Jersey to parents Calesta Platt and John Charles Golden, Sr. During high school, John was elected senior class president and lettered in three sports. In 2001, he was inducted into the Bordentown Regional High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He attended Juniata College, where on the first day of college, he met his future wife of nearly 60 years, Betty Ann Beatty. He earned six letters playing basketball and baseball for Juniata. He later graduated from Rider University in New Jersey. John served in the United States Army Security Agency and was stationed at Clark Air Base in the Philippines. He played baseball across the region for the Clark Air Base Bombers. He and his wife made their life together in the Philadelphia area. He began work in the personnel department at U.S. Steel and then had a 40-year career as a hospital administrator at Chestnut Hill Hospital. In 2009, John and Betty retired to WindsorMeade in Williamsburg, Virginia where they had many good friends and were active in the community. They enjoyed travel and spent several summers exploring all corners of the globe, usually ending with a vacation at Hilton Head Island. Betty passed away in 2018. John is survived by his loving family, including his children, Jill G. White (Andrew) of Manakin-Sabot, Virginia and Gregory J. Golden (Jennifer), of Arlington, Virginia; and four grandchildren, Madeline K. White, George W. White, John C. Golden III, and Blake G. Golden. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, February 28, 2021 and available for streaming on demand at the Williamsburg Presbyterian Church YouTube channel.
