Audrey Phelan holds a special place in my heart, and likely in the hearts of all those who attended Pepperdine University School of Law. Her shock of white hair, and bubbly, Massachusetts-tinged greetings of encouragement and humor are indelibly engraved in my fondest memories of those years as a student, as well as an alum and adjunct returning to campus. Audrey's zest for life and hearty laughter were inspiring. SHe LOVED the ocean, and Paradise cove, and she was an incredible friend to nearly everyone she met. Her compassion and care for each of us "lost lambs" was remarkable, not only for the depth of feeling and sincerity she exuded, but also for the openness with which she approached each and every member of the Pepperdine community. She was, quite simply, that magical auntie that helped in all manner of ways, big and small. She was an incredible friend, and an iconic figure for me and likely many others. In the self imposed pressure of law school, she was a beacon of light and reality, quick to encourage and even quicker to help find the humor in every situation. Audrey was also incredibly competent and intelligent--the Dean's office and staff were blessed to have such a wonderful ambassador on their team! As a problem-solver (and we created many problems!!--) she was amazing! As sad as I am to hear of her passing, I know she's toasting every success and encouraging each of us through any difficulties, from up above. What a phenomenal woman. I am exceptionally grateful for having known her and having her friendship during those formative years. Thank you, Audrey Phelan!
