I was saddened to hear of your passing my friend. I recently attempted to contact you to see if you had weathered the fires, not knowing you were gone. I am saddened. You were my internship roommate. You brought endless energy, perpetual smiles, compassion for the sick and a joy for life wherever you went. I will miss my visits with you.

It was the fall of 1968 at SBHS during Varsity football practice under Coach Bolger (who played at Alabama for Bear Bryant). Steve, at 147 lbs. (in full gear with ten pound weights inserted for thigh pads), played next to me as an offensive lineman. After more than an hour of scrimmaging at full speed I was ready to quit. I came back to the huddle and looked at Steve. He knew I was ready to quit and gave me that huge goofy tooth smile and said "AGGGGG." I forgot how tired I was and spent the rest of the gut-wrenching scrimmage trying to figure out what he meant by "AGGGGG." He never explained it, but Steve got me through and he never quit, ever!

Coach Bear Bryant had people like Steve in mind when he said Never quit. It is the easiest cop-out in the world. Set a goal and dont quit until you attain it. When you do attain it, set another goal, and dont quit until you reach it. Never quit. AGGGG!

Steve played the game of life like a 6' 9" 345 lb. offensive lineman!

Steve, you were a friend, a brother, a classmate, a room mate. You were a shining light, one of the good guys, with a huge heart and a brilliant mind. Your legacy already speaks for itself. You will be missed

We were very saddened to hear of Steve's passing today. Steve and Linda were gracious neighbors, even though our dog would go into attack mode whenever Steve and Sydney would walk by. How lucky our community was to have Steve as a doctor. We will never forget his generosity and kindness. Our heartfelt sympathy to Linda and family. Rest in peace, friend.
