I haven't seen Dewayne in many years, but was in Tulare recently and heard of his illness. My condolences to Billie Sue, Karen, and Becky for their loss. He will be missed but I know his family has peace that their husband/dad is with the Lord, and just like my husband, wouldn't come back if he could. Blessings to u all.

Dewayne Hoppert made quite an impact on my life. He was kind, compassionate, joyful, dedicated, thoughtful, gracious, godly and a joy to visit with at any time. I am a richer man for having studied with him in person and on the phone. He truly loved his Lord, his Lord's church, his family and his church family. Jean and I always enjoyed the wonderful fellowship we had with Dewayne and his family. Our deepest sympathy to Billie Sue and his sweet daughters. May God's grace sustain you is our sincere prayer. John & Jean Owen.

I first came to the Tulare Missionary Baptist Church in 2001, following the death of my dad. Two dear friends encouraged me to visit and said it was a "good place to heal". They were so right.
Bro. Dewayne taught the way I imagine Jesus did. There was no pounding the pulpit or dramatic rants. He just talked and I found myself thinking that he was the "mouthpiece of Jesus" because he spoke the exact words I needed to hear in a very difficult time in my life.
Many times I received encouraging and helpful counseling . He was also a humorous man and my favorite quote is "I'm not afraid of dying. I just don't want to be there when it happens". It still makes me laugh when I think of it.
When I married Mike Childress in 2006, he gave us wise counsel many times and we have been members for 12 years. Though I have studied under many great pastors and teachers over my lifetime, his teachings seemed to fill in many blanks and as I watched him go through his increasingly difficult disease of MS with a constant smile on his face and joy in teaching the Word, I knew that his faith was a living testimony by his life. What a gift he was.
