Kathryn Dunnavant Obituary

Kathryn Ann (Kah) Dunnavant, formerly of Wapakoneta and Columbus, passed away on November 12, 2017, at her home in Salt Lake City, Utah, surrounded by her loving family. She was born in Wapakoneta on March 30, 1929, to Adrian Christian Kah and Ethel Anita (Pfenning) Kah.

She married William R. Dunnavant, of Sidney, in Wapakoneta on August 26, 1956. Kathryn was baptized, confirmed and later married in the St. Paul's Evangelical and Reformed Church of Wapakoneta.

She is survived by her husband William, her son Gregory, of Salt Lake City, UT; her son Jeffery, of Honolulu, Hawaii; and her sister Marcia Hays, of Seal Beach, California. She was preceded in death by her brother Alan F "Fritz" Kah, of Wapakoneta, in 2011.

She was a 1947 graduate of Blume High School, Wapakoneta, and was the Student Council President during her senior year. After working at a local retail store for a year, Kathryn attended Bowling Green State University, in Bowling Green, where she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority, graduating in 1952 with a B.A. degree in Education. She taught Business Education classes for three years at Lima Senior High School, Lima, and during that time took additional education courses at the Ohio State University Summer School. After marriage she taught Business Education for one year at Xenia High School.

Kathryn's main focus in life was always her family and home. During her sons' school years in Upper Arlington, she supported school and scouting activities as a room mother, fund raiser, teaching assistant, band parent and Cub Scout Den Mother. While her sons were involved in competitive target shooting, she assisted her husband in supporting their rifle club and league activities.

After moving to Salt Lake City in 1999 she became a member of the Women's Board of Westminster College and participated in various activities to raise money for student scholarships. She was interested in bible study, attended a number of Elderhostel Programs and went on numerous trips to England, France and Germany with her husband. Of particular interest to her was a genealogy-related trip to Lichtenau, Germany, from where the Kah families in Ohio originated.

A memorial will precede Kathryn's burial at Wapakoneta's Greenlawn Cemetery next year. Advance notice will be published for those who wish then to come together in remembrance of her.

Lovely photo of Aunt Kathryn for this obituary. She looks radiant, elegant, friendly, and happy. Just like I remember her over my 50+ years of knowing her.
And thanks to whomever took this other photo that I am uploading - of my mother Marcia, Aunt Kathryn, and Uncle Fritz, back in 2010 at a family reunion in Ohio.
