Charlie Boone was a gem of a man. He and Carolyn were two bright lights in this world and it was always a pleasure to interact with both of these fine beautiful people. Now Charlie is at peace in the arms of God and with his beloved Carolyn. We are the ones who are left behind but his memory and the warmth of his kindnesses will always remain with us. My condolences to the family.

My time with Charlie dates from the autumn of 1965 at George Washington University. We were pledge brothers that semester at Delta Tau Delta. Both athletes. He was a football, basketball and baseball player from O'Connell and our pledge class president. I remember him wearing his HS letter jacket a lot of the time. I was a rower. We bonded and became good friends. I roped him into joining a "jug band" I was forming. He learned to play the "washtub base." The following summer, I took him down to the shore with a number of my surfing friends to teach him to body surf. Not wholly successfully, however. Charlie was a true gent and a friend to all. A fun loving guy who had to wrestle with health challenges at a young age. He did so with grace and courage and was an example to all of us. Compassionate is a word that applied to him in his concern for others. A mutual friend in DTD was Bernie Swain, another NoVa athlete who was very much a person who took seriously the bonds of brotherhood that we shared. Bernie was someone who knew Charlie in HS, and I believe it was Charlie who brought him into the fraternity. Bernie did extremely well in life and put together a great fraternity reunion at his house in McLean some years ago, getting some 30-odd brothers and their wives together from all over the country. Charlie was there amongst his closest university friends, singing the songs of the fraternity, sharing smiles and tears. He was very much at the center of "we few, we happy few, we band of brothers." And I know he did good work for others, laboring in God's vineyard, fully inspired by the Holy Spirit. He will leave a lot of moving water in his wake. He has made a difference in many lives. Of this, I am certain.

May Charlie, one of the kindest and gentlest men I've ever known, rest in peace as he joins Carolyn. Charlie, you leave an empty seat in the pews at All Souls and a lasting place in my heart.

Michael, it was a pleasure indeed to have known your father and to have the opportunity to have many coffees together. I know you will miss him terribly. Please accept my condolences and I wish I could be there on the 14th to celebrate his life but have moved to Atlanta. I will be thinking of you and the rest of the family on that day.

My deepest sympathy. When someone you love becomes a memory, they become a treasure in your heart forever. May your treasured memories of Charles fill your heart & bring you peace. - Romans 15:13
