BERESFORD CHARLES BERESFORD (Age 87) Charles "Chuck" Beresford, of Louisa, VA passed away Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, VA. The son of conservationist Victor C. Beresford and Norma (Smith) Beresford, Charles was born in Highland Park, MI on August 25, 1925. He spent his childhood in Grosse Pointe, MI before enlisting as a private in the US Army, September 1943. During WWII, as a Combat Infantryman in the 329th Infantry Regiment, 83rd Infantry Division, Third Army, Charles saw action in the Ardennes-Alsace, the Rhineland and Central Europe and was awarded the Bronze Star. In 1948, while stationed at Fort Lee, he was joined in marriage to Cadet Nurse, Aideen Broach at Enfield Baptist Church, Enfield, NC and was appointed to Officer's Candidate School. Commissioned 1st LT in 1956, he achieved the rank of Major before retiring in 1966. He was awarded the Army Commendation Medal for his meritorious service in the US Army Photographic Agency and was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal (Germany), the Vietnam Service Medal and the European American Middle Eastern Commendation among others. In 1967, Charles brought his extensive multimedia expertise to the Pentagon, where he served for the next 22 years in civil service, receiving the Department of the Army's Decoration for Meritorious Civilian Service in recognition of his leadership. A true pioneer in military visual information, he retired from the Office of the Secretary of the Army as the senior Information Management Specialist responsible for the formulation of audio-visual policy, program objectives and priorities Army-wide, and as the Army representative advising the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs on all Department of Defense audiovisual matters. Charles was a member of the Society of Motion Picture and Television Engineers and the International Combat Camera Association. An avid lifelong photographer, boater and fisherman, he enjoyed his retirement at his home overlooking the waters of Lake Louisa in their pursuit. He continued to serve his community on the boards of the Blue Ridge Property Owners Association and JAUNT and never wavered in his support of our armed forces worldwide. Chuck will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Aideen Broach Beresford of Louisa, VA; a son, Victor Charles Beresford II and his fiancé, Laurel, of Front Royal, VA; and a grandson Christopher Charles Beresford and his wife, Carol, of Fairfax, VA. I worked with Chuck while we were both stationed at the Pentagon back in the stone ages. I don't think I ever met a finer gentleman. Chuck was highly skilled, yet took the time to teach us a little of his profound knowledge. His family should know that his co-workers admired him immensely.

I remember Major Beresford as my Sargent while stationed at Fort Monmouth NJ. in 1952. He was in charge of the military instructors
in the Combat Motion picture section, MOPIC. His guidance and patience formed my future. I salute you Sargent Beresford. Rest in Peace. Cpl. William Ryan.
