SICKAFUS CHARLES R. SICKAFUS (Age 87) For 29 years a teacher of instrumental music in the schools of Montgomery County, MD, died on May 20, 2010 in Central Baptist Hospital, Lexington, KY. He was born in Warsaw, IN on July 23, 1922 and was raised in Indiana and Ohio, graduating from Paulding, Ohio High School. During World War II he served in the U.S. Army and was official photographer for the 95th Infantry Division during its deployment in the European Theater of war. Following the war he attended Morehead State University in Kentucky, graduating in 1948 with a degree in music education. He did graduate work at the University of Colorado, receiving a Master of Music Education degree in 1951. Mr. Sickafus taught for five years in Mansfield, OH, and then moved to the Washington area. His instrumental groups at Northwood and Springbrook High Schools in Montgomery County consistently garnered prizes and trophies for the schools. During that period he also did critic teaching for the University of Maryland and Catholic University. He retired in 1982. He was a long time member of National Presbyterian Church in Washington. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ruth Sickafus. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Memorial gifts may be made to the Alzheimer''s Association, 465 E.
