I first met Helen on Valentine's Day, 1972. I was the new (brand new) principal assigned to Westgate School. Here are a few things I remember most about Helen. As our head secretary, she was the first contact parents and visitors had with the school. They were always greeted with a warm welcome, a great smile and answers to their questions. I think however, her greatest joy came from her contact with the children. She knew all their names and many of
their siblings and parents. When needed, Helen would give an
extra dose of affection or say some special words to put a smile on an anxious child's face. As our cheerleader, Helen helped promote and enhance the school's objectives to provide a positive
environment where children were safe, cared for and special. In addition to her front office work, she was an exceptional secretary. And, she was her own worse critic. Nothing less than perfect would
do. Needless to say, she made my job much easier.
Would that there were more of her. She was a pure pleasure.
All blessings to John, Lisa and family and the legacy Helen leaves.

Helen brightened my day as I entered Westgate Elementary school for almost two decades. Her smile was contagious! Condolences to John and family. Your Mom definitely earned her wings!

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Helen. I was a teacher at Westgate during her time there. I so admired her. She was the most professional secretary. She seemed to have any task done before anyone could dream of getting it back. Above all, she was the main ingredient to the positive school spirit we enjoyed at Westgate. She was loved.
