My deepest sympathy to Marianne's children and family. I just saw her obituary this evening. I knew Marianne when she was a nursing student at Albright College. I was one of her nursing instructors. She was a bright, hard working nursing student who took the pressure of our tough nursing program in stride. It was clear to us that she had what it took to make a difference in the nursing profession. I have been proud to see her accomplishments in nursing over the years. Fair winds and following seas my friend.

So sorry to hear about Marianne's death! My deepest sympathy to her mother and her sons at this difficult time. I regret I was not able to offer my condolences in person since I was out of town. I knew Marianne when I worked at GUH and so appreciated her wisdom and commitment to her students. She was always so gracious and welcoming to us chaplains and supported our ministry at GUH. May she Rest In Peace! Sister Pat Parachini, SNJM

When I was evening charge/OR, Marianne Lyons, nursing coordinator made rounds, collected vital information, offered help, encouragement, sage tart advice, focus, reality. It was a challenge in survival.I loved it! She showed me the possibility of professional nursing life outside the OR, importance of lifelong education, and her belief I could do it.
Upon my getting a degree in SNHS/ Georgetown, it was Professor Lyons with Dr.Cloonan, who opened doors to graduate school at Catholic University Clinical Nurse Specialist program, member activity in Sigma Theta Tau, honor society of nursing, and later, a push to continue for a second graduate program in Community Public Health nursing education. She provided a scholarship for a course in Transformational Leadership Research 3years ago.
As liturgical minister / Holy Trinity 1:15PM Mass, Professor Lyons usually stopped by to speak, as we were about to exit. A few Sundays ago, we were in the last pew, opposite side of church. Professor Lyons walked back from communion, singing softly, stopped, patted my husband on the head, in blessing. He had just been discharged from another emergency stay at Suburban's cardiac unit,post-aorta rupture! They were singing the final verse of the SUSCIPE ! Virgil had tears in his eyes.
Professor Lyons gave HOPE. To me she also gave a sense of VALUE. I did not see her after that Sunday. I will never forget this saint who created paths in our lives.

I am sending my deepest sympathy to all of Marianne's families. I had the privilege of working with her through the School of Nursing and Health Sciences as a nurse recruiter. Marianne was always so kind and generous to me. I'll always remember the sage advice she shared with me as I was trying to decide whether or not to return to school for a doctorate. I hope her boys understand the impact she made in this world. May God bless you all.

You are already sorely missed. I have such pleasant memories of our collaboration on Nurses for America, Nurses SOAR, and other educational activities as well as efforts to ensure rights for faculty and staff. We never got to go to Ireland with Sister Helen, alas, but I will carry your spirit with me whenever I go.

I want Marianne's children to know how deeply your Mother was respected and loved at Georgetown by all of us privileged to be among her colleagues. I also cherish the memory of the many Sundays I watcher her bring her own Mother to Mass at Holy Trinity.

Such heartbreaking news to hear about this significant loss for her boys, her Mom, her Georgetown family, the Nursing profession and her many beloved friends. I enjoyed every moment working with her as a Supervisor at Georgetown Hospital. She had a wonderful sense of humor, depth of knowledge and amazing humanity. Marianne was truly blessed and so were all of us to have shared her journey through life. May we all strive to be a little Marianne and I pray for peace and comfort and wonderful memories for her family.
