R SCOTT ALLYN SLAYBECKER
The life of R Scott Allyn Slaybecker is difficult to bound in words: Polyglot, Analyst, Husband, Father, Friend. He thirsted for and marveled at knowledge. He met five kings, and visited 44 countries. He deeply valued the responsibility we have on this earth, to reach our potential and to leave behind more than we were given. He was a romantic and a dreamer until the very last. He passed January 12, 2020 and we will lay him to rest at 10 a.m. on January 18 at 4401 Burke Station Rd., Fairfax, VA.

My second job as a young officer at ONI was working for Scott. Great man. I still remember his childhood stories from Afghanistan. We certainly connected and he was a pleasure to be around. A man of the World indeed, bringing uncommon perspective. He lived well.

Scott and I had a very special business trip to Victoria, Canada one year and I will never forget his wit and humor both during the trip and the many discussions in his office about the issues of the day. He was one of those friends you keep for a lifetime....

Scott often told me of the world as he saw it, and I tended to like the version he saw better than mine. He was a real life Rudyard Kipling.

We are sorry to hear that Scott has passed away. It was always enjoyable to have Scott at our lunch table when we worked together in Suitland. Karen Downs and Jim Stratton

Cliche though it might be, I know of no one who more perfectly embodied or embodies the concept of scholar and gentleman. I'll never forget my many conversations with Scott over the years (since the early 1990s), many of them quite long. Nobody matched his devotion to ensure that our organization maintained global breadth and worldwide wisdom. And he offered a consistent voice for human consideration in a not-always-sympathetic management culture. I will miss him deeply. Tim Smith

A friend, a great supervisor and someone who said it like it was. His many adventures were no less than gripping. He never shied from telling truth to power. I will really miss Scott.

Scott was a close friend, co-worker, and mentor with whom I shared many a "sea story" during our business trips to Victoria, Canada, or in his office. I will miss Scott and our story-telling. "Fair winds and following seas" my friend. Semper Fi, Greg Davis

I pray that you are comforted in your time of grief. Scott was a great man and I enjoyed talking with and learning from him. He will not be forgotten.
