Robert Sutherin Obituary

SUTHERIN, Robert

Robert George Sutherin passed away peacefully on December 4, 2017, in Sacred Heart Hospice Care in Eugene, Oregon.

Robert was known to his family as Grandpa Bob. He was a wonderful father, grandfather, loving husband, and friend to many, always there to help and teach.

Robert was born in Topeka, Kansas, July 14, 1926, to parents John and Genevieve Sutherin. The family moved to Whittier in 1940 where they had many cousins, aunts and uncles. Bob met his long-time love Eleanor (Ellie) at Glendale Junior College. They were married February 23, 1946, and spent 68 happy years together.

Bob continued his education at UCLA, studying engineering. He worked for many years as an engineer, including 14 years at North American Rockwell during the Apollo Space projects.

Bob and Ellie lived in Whittier for47 years. Active in several organizations, including Kiwanis and the Downey Toastmasters, Bob was also an excellent Bridge and Chess player. He loved sports, especially the UCLA Bruins and Angels baseball.

Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife Eleanor who passed away in 2014. He is survived by his daughter Phyllis Ann, granddaughters, Jeanette and Michele and four great-grandchildren.

His family, friends and neighbors will miss Bob's warm smile, his generous heart, and his great sense of humor.

A Program of Remembrance will be held in Whittier in the Summer 2018.
