Maguire, Merlyn W.
Merlyn W. Maguire, age 86, of Wisconsin Rapids, WI. passed away Friday, October 27, 2017 at Renaissance Assisted Living, Wisconsin Rapids, WI.
Funeral Mass will be at 11:00 AM Thursday, November 2, 2017 at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Fr. William Menzel will officiate. Visitation will at Ritchay Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids, WI from 4:00-7:00 PM Wednesday and Thursday at the Church from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by American Legion Post #9 of Wisconsin Rapids.
Merlyn was born May 1, 1931 in Halder, WI to Emeran and Julia (Handrick) Maguire. He married Anita Gebert Hoffman on October 12, 1974 in Wisconsin Rapids, WI. Merlyn was employed at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 36 years retiring on May 31, 1993.
Merlyn started playing baseball at age 17 as a pitcher for Halder and then he was called to serve in the U.S. Army in 1953 and there he played for the Army Regimental team. He served during the Korean War from 1953-1955. Merlyn loved baseball and polka dancing and he always enjoyed spending time with his family and friends- storytelling.
Merlyn is survived by four daughters, Barb (Wayne Koberg) Grimm of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Susan (Bill) Livernash of Wisconsin Rapids, WI, Mary (Bill) Cummings of Bancroft, WI and Julie (Warren) Staszak of Ringle, WI; two brothers, Daniel (Monica) Maguire of Wisconsin Rapids, WI and Dennis (Patricia) Maguire of Ohio; special friend, Virginia Zelinski; daughter-in-law, Judy Hoffman of Wisconsin Rapids, WI; son-in-law Bill Gaupp of Nekoosa; 25 grandchildren and many loving great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.
Merlyn was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Anita; two sons, Jack Hoffman and Terrance Hoffman; daughter, Kathleen Gaupp; granddaughter, Tina Livernash; grandson, Billy Livernash; great granddaughter, Jordan Fritsche; son-in-law, Fred Grimm and daughter-in-law, Georgia Hoffman.
The Maguire family would like to thank the staff of Renaissance and Ministry Home Care Hospice for their great care of Merlyn.
