MANCHESTER Dr. Silvion B. Freeman, DO, 94, passed away at 4:08 a.m. Thursday, July 23, 2015, at his home. The son of the late George W. and Dorothea (Gamp) Freeman, he was born in Liverpool, N.Y., on January 24, 1921. An accomplished amateur radio operator, Dr. Freeman enlisted in the Navy in 1942 and was recruited to work on aviation radar in the Hawaiian Islands. He served as Aviation Chief Radio Technician for the duration of the war. In 1950 Dr. Freeman graduated from Syracuse University with a degree in nutrition. He was a life-long advocate of preventive medicine through diet, and by following his own advice, did not spend a single day in the hospital as a patient. He attended Kansas City College of Osteopathy and Surgery where he met and married the late Elaine (Smith) Freeman, DO. They graduated in 1956, interned at the West Side Osteopathic Hospital in York, and opened their own practice in Manchester in 1957. Dr. Freeman was a third-degree Freemason and a member of the Liverpool Masonic Lodge for 65 years. Dr. Freeman is survived by his three daughters, Sylvia, Kathie, and Laurie Freeman, all of Manchester; his son, Mark Freeman and his wife, Lauren of Mount Wolf; his grandson, Philip Freeman of Mechanicsburg; and 11 nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his sister, Halcyone Ribera. A private memorial service will be held by his family. Arrangements have been entrusted to The Diehl Funeral Home & Cremation Center of Mount Wolf. I just heard of the Drs. Silvions' passing last evening at the All Saints Day service. He was a quiet, unassuming man, with a wonderful laugh, and the most caring Doctor I have ever known. You do not find his quality in today's medical field. I'm sure he is sorely missed by his children, but he is walking with his Elaine, in heaven, and they are taking care of all of God's creatures.

With fond memories,

Loved this family, they were our family doctors for about 30 years. He delivered one of our sons in 1966. Thoughts and prayers to the girls and Mark and his wife. Mark and his wife are very active members of our church, Christ Lutheran, Manchester, Pa.

Dr. Freeman will be missed! But he and Elaine left us with a precious gift in the form of their daughters and son. Those four men and women are people of talent, integrity, strong character, and sheer decency, that that improve and enlighten the lives of all who know them. Thank you for that gift Dr. Freeman and for the enduring memory of your wry good humor and calm in the face of troubles.
