William E. Harper, Jr.
York
William E. "Bill" Harper, Jr., 94, passed away peacefully on Wednesday February 1, 2017. He was the devoted husband of Betty M. (Myers) Harper for 73 years. Mr. Harper was born in York and was the son of the late William Eugene Harper and Annabell (Torbert) Harper.
Bill served his country honorably in the U. S. Army Air Corp during WW II. He received numerous commendations and awards. During his career he was an electrician with I. B. Abel. He retired from York Hospital after 12 years of service. There he was responsible for starting the Bio-Medical Department.
Memberships include, Shiloh U.C.C. and a 50+ year member of the Shiloh Lions Club.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three daughters, Anne L. Myers and her husband, Robert of York, Sara J. Roth and her husband, Daniel of Mt. Joy and Susan A Harper of York; three grandchildren, Michelle S. Garcia and her husband, Rolando, David W. Schrantz and his wife, Michelle and Alex R Cadoux. He also leaves a brother, Donald Harper of East Berlin; and a sister, Janet Gladfelter of York. He was preceded in death by three siblings.
Memorial service will be at 12 noon on Saturday, February 11, 2017 at Shiloh United Church of Christ, 2251 Willow Rd, York, officiating will be his pastor, Susan D'heedene. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 12 noon followed by full military honors by the York County Veterans Honor Guard prior to the service.
At the families request, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Shiloh U.C.C., Building Fund, 2251 Willow Road, York, Pa. 17408 or to Hospice and Community Care, 224 St Charles Way, Suite 200, York, Pa. 17402.
Arrangements are entrusted to the LeRoy R. Leber Funeral Home, Inc. of York.
