Margaret M. Altier Ross
CORNING: Margaret M. Altier Ross, 95, of Corning, Ohio died at 12:25pm on Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at her home.
Born February 9, 1917 in Corning, Ohio to the late Nicholas L. and Mary Marino Altier.
Mrs. Ross was a lifetime member of Saint Bernards Catholic Church of Corning, Ohio, where she was a member of the Rosary Altar Society; she volunteered at Saint Bernards Church and School, festival and bingo for many years; past member of the Corning Eagles #463 Ladies Auxiliary; Good Neighbors Club; she was an avid bowler, euchre player and played bingo; she worked 50 plus years on the Board of Elections and was named senior citizen of the year in Corning; she loved to read and loved her grandchildren.
Survived by 3 children, Margaret Ellen Jacobs of Cambridge, Anna (Ron) Storts of Corning and Nick Ross of Corning; daughter-in-law, Barb Ross (George) Wilson of Portersville, who was thought of as a daughter; son-in-law, Don VanWay of Corning; 18 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren, 14 great-great-grandchildren; brother, N.L. "Dusty" (Dorothy) Altier of New Lexington; 2 sisters, Rosemary Winnenberg of Columbus and Sister Marie Altier of New York; special friend, Paul Daniel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to her parents, preceded in death by her husband, Malcolm Ross, Jr. in 1983; daughter, Mary C. Vanway; son, Tony Ross; son-in-law, John Jacobs; 7 brothers, Leonard, Pat, John, Leo, Joe, Robert and Henry; 3 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Calling Hours will be held from 4pm-7pm on Saturday, January 26, 2013 and from 2pm-8pm with Rosary at 7:45pm on Sunday, January 27, 2013 at the Roberts-Winegardner Funeral Home, 304 Mill Street, New Lexington, Ohio and from 10am-11am on Monday at the church.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Saint Bernards Catholic Church, Corning, Ohio with Father Daniel Dury as celebrant.
She will be laid to rest next to her husband in New Lexington Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Saint Bernards Catholic Church.
