Geraldine Donnelly Death Notices
DONNELLY, Geraldine (née Ruane) 35 Coole Haven, Gort, Co. Galway (late of Mervue and Knocknacarra, Galway City). Who passed away on October 23rd 2025. On the occasion of Geraldine's Month's Mind, her husband Tommy, children Joanna, Keith, Marcella, and Lorna, together with her mother Josephine, sisters Tara and Jackie, brother Derek, and the extended Ruane and Donnelly families, wish to express their heartfelt thanks to all who showed such great kindness following Geraldine's passing. We were deeply moved and comforted by the extraordinary number of people who sympathised with us, attended the funeral, and sent Mass cards, letters, and flowers. Your generosity of spirit and thoughtful messages of support meant so much to us during this difficult time. Geraldine bore her long illness with courage and grace. She received exceptional and compassionate care from Professor Maccon Keane and his team, and from the entire palliative care team at St. Joseph's Ward, U.C.H.G., as well as all in Galway Hospice, who made a painful journey more bearable. A special mention goes to Kate, whose kindness and attention went far beyond the call of duty. Our sincere thanks also to Dr. Niamh Haverty and her team at 32 Newcastle Road, Galway, for their wonderful care from the beginning of Geraldine's illness. Heartfelt thanks to Fr. Tommy Marrinan for leading the celebration of Geraldine's life with warmth, insight, and consolation. Thank you to Nicola, Corina, and the choir for the beautiful music during the Mass, to Valerie for her touching singing at the graveside, and to Keith for his moving eulogy. We are grateful to all who participated in the Mass - the readers, those who offered Prayers of the Faithful, and those who brought forward the symbols and gifts. A special thank you to the Order of Malta, who provided a Guard of Honour and who held a very special place in Geraldine's heart. Thanks also to the members of Wild Swan Theatre Company for their gentle guidance and comforting presence throughout the repose at Seomra Cuin, within Gort Town Hall. Our sincere thanks to The Lady Gregory Hotel for their warmth and professionalism in hosting the meal following the funeral, to Sullivans for their generous provision of food and support during the days after Geraldine's passing, and to Garda Ger Naughton for his thoughtful assistance on the day of the funeral. We also extend our gratitude to Quinn's Pharmacy and the wider Gort community for their kindness and support, and to Gort Cancer Support Centre for their constant care and compassion throughout Geraldine's illness. We especially thank Gort Credit Union for their touching gesture in paying final respects to Geraldine, and the neighbours in Coole Haven for the dignified and respectful way they honoured her. Sincere thanks to the gravediggers - John, Anthony, Damien, and John - for the beautiful way they prepared Geraldine's final resting place. To Mullins Bros. Undertakers, Gort, and especially Shane Counihan, for the tender care and professionalism shown to Geraldine and her family - we are deeply grateful. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgment as a token of our sincere appreciation. Please keep Geraldine in your hearts and prayers, remember her often, and smile for the sunshine she brought to our lives. Geraldine's Month's Mind Mass Will be held at 9:30 a.m. in Gort on Sunday, 23rd November.
