Mary BORTNAK Death Notices

Mary Bortnak
July 28, 1925 – July 19, 2017
With deep sorrow the family announces the passing of Mrs. Mary Bortnak, age 91 years, on Wednesday, July 19, 2017 at St. Paul's Hospital. Mary was born to Roman and Irene Tomenchuk on a small farm near Arran, SK. She had ten siblings. On January 16, 1949 Mary married Michael Bortnak in Toronto, ON. Mary worked very hard throughout her life. From working on the family farm, caring for her siblings when her father Roman passed away in 1939. During WWII Mary worked in an airplane factory in Fort William, ON. She worked in a food processing plant, restaurants, housework, food catering all while raising her four children. Always Working, Always Busy. Mary was a fantastic mother and baba. She made mouth-watering perogies and cabbage rolls. Nobody ever went hungry at baba's place. She cared deeply for her family and enjoyed her bingo. Mary was a long-time member of the Ukrainian Greek Orthodox Church in Saskatoon. Mary and Mike moved to Saskatoon in 1953. She resided at her current address for 63 years until her passing from health complications at St. Paul's Hospital. A special thanks to the fine nurses and doctors who eased her pain and kept the family well informed during her stay. Mary was predeceased by her husband Michael (August 1, 1992); her parents; brothers Alex, Jack, Nick and John; sisters Elsie, Annie and Dorothy. Mary will be deeply missed and always remembered by her brothers Peter and Bill (Rose) Tenor; sister Nellie; daughters Linda Mitchell, Arlene (Tom) Bradley; sons Leonard and John; as well as eleven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren who shared in her love and care. The Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Park Funeral Home, 311 3rd Avenue North, with Very Rev. Fr. Bohdan Demczuk officiating .
