Aaron Lee Harrell was born on August 29, 1930, in Georgetown, South Carolina to Edward and Maude Harrell. Aaron graduated from Howard High School and serviced two years in the US Army receiving an honorably discharged. In 1955, he began a 38-year career as a Brick Mason at U.S. Steel in Gary Indiana.
In 1957 Aaron traveled to Brooklyn, NY, to marry Mildred Ella McCant. They returned to Gary and remained happily married for 68 years. Aaron was known as a loving and devoted husband and father. To their union, six children were born, Aaron II, Belinda, Pernell, Donnell, Louise and Maurice.
Aaron joined Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church in 1956. He was a member of the Male Chorus an active participant in Sunday School class 2, and maintained a strong prayer life, reading the Word of God nightly. He also enjoyed handiwork around the house.
Aaron passed away at the age of 95 on February 19, 2026, at Methodist Northlake Hospital.
Aaron was preceded in death by his parents, his son Kenneth Harrell; his daughter Donnell McClure; and his siblings, Louise, Thomas, Arthur, Jane, Robert and George.
He is survived by his wife Mildred Harrell of Gary, Indiana; his Children, Aaron L Harrell(Michigan City, Indiana) Belinda Verges, Pernell Harrell, Louise Harrell, (all of Gary, Indiana), Maurice (Bridget) Harrell (Winder, GA) and Brenda Hughes, (Washington, D.C.); Daughter-In-Law, Ester Harrell (Murrells Inlet, SC);special nephew Shawn Smith, friends Billie Garder, Delmus Arthur and a host of grandchildren, great grand-children, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Visitation Wednesday, February 25, 2026, from 9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. with funeral service to follow at 11:00 a.m. All services at Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church 1741-47 Fillmore Street Gary, Indiana 46407. Rev Issac A. Culver officiating. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery.
