Aaron Sawyer Jr. was born on August 1, 1948 in Gary, Indiana. He sadly departed this life on January 12, 2026, at the age of 77. Aaron was born to the proud parents of Katie Riley Davis- Sawyer and Aaron Sawyer Sr. He was the youngest of 10 siblings. Aaron accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age. He was a former member of Pinnacle Faith Pentecostal COGIC, under the leadership, the late Pastor Tommie Dolton. Aaron graduated from Roosevelt High School in Gary, Indiana, in 1967. After high school, he went on to work for the Gary US Steel Mill for over 30+ years on the #13 Blast Furnace. He retired in 1996. Aaron had many hobbies. He loved to travel, dine, chill daily, and watch his western movies. His favorite gospel songs: "I Love the Lord, He heard my Cry, " by Danny R. Hollins and "If Nothing Else...Thank You," by Saints With A Vision. He was outgoing and very spontaneous. If you say, "let's, he would say, go!" Aaron possessed a smile that would illuminate the room upon entry. His infectious laughter and witty humor kept those around him entertained and engaged. His sense of style was impeccable! He was one sharp, dressed man, with a very cool vibe. He was always on point! His beautiful personality was marked by a very giving spirit. Aaron will give you his last, and the shirt off his back, if necessary. He loved his family and friends, and held a special place in heart for his grandchildren. Above all, he possessed a profound love for God. Aaron is preceded in death by his parents, Katie and Aaron Sawyer Sr. Siblings: Johnnie Lee Ward, Sammy Lee Ward, Ora Mae Keith, Will Davis, Laura Hardin, Pearline Franklin, Katherine Sawyer, Tommie and Cleotha Sawyer. 1 son: Aaron Sawyer III. He leaves to cherish his memories
his children: Cynthia Mckenzie (Bryant), Robyn Sawyer-Atasie, Tommy Sawyer (Victoria), Frederick Seay (Lori). 3 step- sons: Brandon Campbell, Eric Givens, and Lorenzo Crooks. 17 grandchildren: Tyleasia, Ja' Quan, Jasmine, Christopher, Eryn, Ariana, Aaron IV, Madisyn, Angel, April, Ta'Niya, Ta'Mia, Frederick Jr, Nia, James Aaron, Isaih, and Brittany. 13 great-grands: La'Nette, Ja'Quan Jr., Zy'Aire, Sincere, Messiah, Keila, Kian, Kimani, Beau, Ava Marie, Aiden, Aaron Sawyer V, Ariyah, and a host of nieces, great-nieces, nephews, great-nephews, cousins, and friends.
Special and best friends: Sheryl Smith, Mildred Wilborn, Mr. Moe, Mr. Buck, R.L. Stokes, and the late Mr. Mack. Special cousin: Ms. Bonnie. He was truly loved and will be missed by all! A Celebration of life service will be held Saturday, January 24, 2026 at McDuffie Funeral & Cremation 1525 Broadway Gary, Indiana 46407.
