Agnes Meyer Birdsong

Agnes Meyer Birdsong, received her crown and entered eternal rest on January 1, 2026 surrounded by family. She was born in New Roads, La to the union of John N. Meyer and Odelia Gaines Meyer on February 4, 1940. Her early life was nurtured and guided by her maternal grandparents Alexander Gaines and Rosalie Jones Gaines due to the untimely passing of her mother. Her later life was nurtured by her father and step-mother Virginia Solomon Meyer. She attended St. Augustine Catholic Elementary School and was a graduate of New Roads High class of 1961. She later attended Southern University where she met her future husband Solomon Birdsong of Shreveport, La. Agnes was a volunteer and civil rights activist while attending Southern University. After marriage she relocated to Shreveport where she resided for over sixty years and where her sons Solomon Birdsong, Jr and Philander Birdsong (Nanette) were born. She was a longtime employee, supervisor and retiree of Lucent Technologies. Agnes was as devout Christian and long time member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and later a member Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Father Duane Trombetta, Shreveport, La.

Agnes, Celebration of Life will be at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 1565 Curtis Street, Baton Rouge, La 70807. Viewing 9:30, Rosary 10:00, and Mass of Christian Burial 10:30. Internment Southern Memorial Garden, repast Church Hall. Visitation will be held on Friday, January 23rd 4pm - 6pm at Hall Davis & Sons Funeral Service 9348 Scenic Hwy, Baton Rouge, La 70807. Interment will be Southern Memorial Garden.
