Agnes Annette Johnson

1936 - 2026

Agnes Annette Johnson (née Oinaala), aged 89, passed away peacefully on March 25, 2026, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. Born on September 27, 1936, in Sioux Lookout, Ontario, Canada, Agnes lived a life marked by resilience, dedication, and love for her family.

The daughter of Finnish immigrants, Agnes cherished her Finnish and Canadian heritage. Her upbringing instilled a keen sense of independence and determination that guided her throughout her life.

On November 11, 1954 Agnes married Vernon Johnson in Dryden, Ontario, Canada. Following their marriage, she moved to the United States; ultimately becoming a naturalized U.S. Citizen. She was deeply devoted to all things family and created countless cherished memories alongside her husband during his military career as they lived in various locations. Agnes’s support and adaptability during these years were a cornerstone of their shared journey.

Agnes built a successful career in procurement at Ampex Corporation. Among her many accomplishments was her role as a team member on the Ampex team at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics—a testament to her hard work and commitment to excellence.

Agnes found joy in knitting and investing—hobbies that reflected both her creativity and sharp mind. She also took great pride in nurturing relationships with those she loved most. Her legacy lives on through her surviving family: her sister Margie; children Vern Jr. (Joan), Debbie, Diane, and Tom (Lynne); grandchildren Shannon (Patrick), James, Michael (Leah), Andrew (Ashton), Sarah (Nate), Elizabeth, Justin (Bethany), and Ryan (Nicole); and great-grandchildren Hadlee, Eleanor, Clara, Nora, Noah, and Lily. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Vernon Johnson and her parents, Eino and Hanna Oinaala.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Stone Creek of Flying Horse, Bloom Health, and Compassus Hospice for their compassionate care over the past two-and-a-half years. The family also offers a special thank you to Grandson James, who served as a much needed supplemental caregiver on-site at her Memory Care Facility.

A private service will be held at a later date to honor Agnes’s remarkable life. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or a charity of choice.

May Agnes’s memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
