Alayne Emily Stassen (Goode), 82, died on December 4, 2025, at Caledonia Senior Living & Memory Care in North Riverside, Illinois.
Alayne was born on August 14, 1943, in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Canada to Jim and Ruth Goode (Gibbons).
After graduation from high school, Alayne enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force and served as a nurse overseas in Zweibrucken, Germany. It was there that she met the love of her life, Fred Stassen, who was serving in the US Air Force.
They were married on October 10, 1964. After marriage, they lived in Los Angeles and Chicago before moving to Menomonie, Wisconsin in 1973.
Alayne worked as a nurse at Myrtle Werth Hospital. She was a Master Gardener and loved to travel, especially home to her beloved Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia. She was passionate about the environment, loved the outdoors, and was an avid birdwatcher.
Alayne is survived by her son, Eric (Kristine) Stassen of Chicago, daughter, Michelle (John) Reed and grandson Dominic Reed of North Sydney, Nova Scotia, and sisters Gertie Betts of Huntington, Nova Scotia and Yvonne MacDonald of Coxheath, Nova Scotia.
Alayne was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Ruth Goode, and husband Fred Stassen.
