Albert “Al” Walter Kruger, 60, of San Pablo, died on January 13th, 2026.
He was born on September 28th, 1965 in Berkeley, CA to Patricia (Ryan) Kruger and Phillip “Mike” Kruger. Al was a loving father to Brittany, Kaylynn and Kyle and devoted grandfather to Rowen, Andre, Nova and Bianca.
Al attended Seaview Elementary, Pinole Middle, and Pinole Valley High where he was an avid baseball player. After high school he attended San Francisco State University, and he continued to play baseball in adult leagues.
Al was hardworking and dedicated, with an extensive career in store management for Pak 'N Save where he made many friends. He then went on to manage other franchises, ending his career at PetSmart. Al knew what it took to lead people by example and with compassion and generosity, earning him the title of “favorite manager.”
Al enjoyed bowling, golfing, attending baseball and football games and concerts, and spending time with his loved ones. He also became involved in coaching baseball and softball for leagues such as Tara Hills, Pinole Hercules, Pinole Rays, Solano Storm and Pinole Valley High. Al was a wonderful coach and mentor, taking kids to practice, fixing swings and stances, and encouraging having fun and giving your all on and off the field.
Al was always someone that could be counted on, always willing to lend a hand and help people when they needed it the most. He was the best at giving advice on nearly any situation and always had a funny anecdote to relate. He always encouraged people to look at the bright side of things. His wisdom and encouragement will be missed.
Al was preceded in death by his mother Patricia and father Mike, and is survived by his children Brittany, Kaylynn (Bryan) and Kyle (Milagros), his grandchildren Rowen, Andre, Nova and Bianca, his mother Wanda, and his brother Steven, as well as numerous extended family members and friends.
Cremation has been chosen and no official services are planned. The family will be hosting a celebration of life on Saturday, February 28th, 2026, at Al’s residence in Pinole.
In lieu of plants or flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the family to help cover Al’s final expenses.
