It is with profound sadness that the family of Alec Gordon Simcox-Heath shares that he passed away from an apparent seizure in his childhood home in Wakefield, Massachusetts, on January 18, 2026, at age 29. Born on July 30, 1996, in Winchester to Alison Simcox and Douglas Heath, Alec grew up in Wakefield, graduating from Wakefield High School, later living in Lowell (where he attended Middlesex Community College), Malden, and most recently Manaus, Brazil. He was a devoted son, brother, and partner; cared deeply about his grandmothers; and showered his dog, Leo, with love.
Alec's nurturing and fun-loving spirit was evident early on. As a teenager, he served as an assistant coach for the United Bulls Basketball Team at The Arc Middlesex County (formerly EMARC), where he supported youth with developmental and other disabilities and was named "Volunteer of the Year" in 2014. Earlier, in 2010, his quick thinking in a medical emergency earned him a Young Hero Award from the Massachusetts State Fire Marshal. He became a certified lifeguard, earned EMT and EKG technician credentials, and served as a counselor-in-training at Camp Rotary (Boxford) and Camp Howe (Goshen). In 2016, he joined the Massachusetts Army National Guard and received a medical discharge.
Alec was entrepreneurial, optimistic, and persuasive - always thinking of new possibilities. He created and managed his own e-commerce business. His compass often pointed to personal freedom - sometimes fiercely, sometimes imperfectly.
He was curious about the world, soaking up history and politics (often through long podcasts), and traveled widely. Over the years, he traveled across the U.S. (including Puerto Rico), Canada, Mexico, Europe, and the Middle East (including the UAE and Oman). Most recently, he traveled and lived in Brazil. He became conversational in Portuguese, a skill he took great pride in.
Alec is survived by his parents; his grandmother, Margaret Simcox; his brother, Ian Simcox-Heath, and sister-in-law, Jenny Wolf; his nephews, Arthur and Aldous; his aunts, Rosemary Diskin, Ginny Cohen, Mary Simcox, and Marianne Heath; his uncles, Tim Simcox, Tim Diskin, and Richard Cohen; seven cousins; and his partner, Mary. He was predeceased by his grandfathers, Gordon Simcox and S. Roy Heath, Jr., and his uncle, Peter Heath.
A celebration of his life will be held on March 14 (in-person by invitation); a livestream link will be shared so all who loved him can join. For details, please email Douglas Heath at [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Alec's memory to the Boys & Girls Club of Metro North (link to donation page), which provides safe spaces where kids and teens build confidence, connect with mentors, and discover what they love.
