In Loving Memory of
Alexander V. Hancock III
March 17, 1970 – March 29, 2026
Alexander “Al” Hancock III, a man who found his greatest joy on the open water, passed away at the age of 56. Born on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17, 1970, in Birmingham, Alabama, he spent the majority of his life in Panama City, Florida, where the beach and the ocean were his true home.
In his younger years, Al was a skilled cabinet maker known for his craftsmanship and attention to detail. However, his heart always belonged to the Gulf. He spent many years working as a deckhand on deep-sea charter boats, turning his passion for fishing into a way of life. Whether he was working the deck or simply enjoying the salt air, the ocean was where he felt most at peace.
He was a die-hard Alabama fan who rarely missed a chance to cheer on the Crimson Tide. When he wasn’t shouting "Roll Tide," he was usually in the woods hunting deer and enjoying the quiet of nature. He also had an adventurous side, always looking forward to the occasional trip to the casino.
Al was a fighter who faced a long and courageous battle with a heart condition. Over the last three years, he endured multiple major surgeries and continued to fight with determination until the very end.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Sandra Shrader and Billy Moore; his son, Andrew Jones; and his dear friend and mother of his son, Kristi Rhodes.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Alexander Hancock Jr., two uncles, Terry Shrader and Mike Hancock, and his longtime significant other, Jennifer Vanlandingham.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal arrangements are being made at this time, though a celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association in his memory, honoring his brave struggle.
