Alfred Ness

Alfred Oliver "Al" Ness, Sr., passed away on October 28, 2025, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the age of 95. Born on July 25, 1930, in Minneapolis to Alfred and Ellen Ness, Al remained a lifelong resident of the city.

He served honorably in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, reflecting a deep commitment to his country. Following his military service, Al returned to Minneapolis, attended Brown Institute to build a career as a television repairman, and built a family.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Mary Rutt; his former wife, Augusta Suzanne Rudnicki Foster; and his children: Alfred Oliver Ness Jr. (Heather), Nancie Carol Gabriel (Michael), and Richard Arnald Ness; grandchildren Alyssa Marie and Tyler Jacob; and many nieces and nephews.

Al was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Myrtle Portinga, Vivian Nantz, and Sylvia Westcott, nieces Marlene Portinga Stone and Sharon Rose Nantz Winburn.

He found enjoyment in simple pastimes, particularly bowling, which he pursued with enthusiasm over the years.

A Memorial Service will be held on January 10, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Cityview Church, 3041 4th Avenue South, Minneapolis.
