Dr. Allan L. Botkin, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, and pioneer in clinical psychology, passed away on February 28, 2026. He was born on March 5, 1949, in Chicago, the son of Leroy and Edith Botkin. He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Wilde) Botkin; his children, Allison Botkin and Max Botkin (Maria Angeles); and his grandchildren, Eva Hahn, Bode Hahn, Mitzi Hahn, and Jaxson Botkin. He is also survived by his siblings Nancy Carlson (the late Robert Carlson), Marilyn Botkin, and David Botkin (Nancy Botkin).

Dr. Botkin graduated from Lyons Township High School in La Grange IL, where he was a standout athlete known for his talent as a basketball player and pole vaulter. He went on to earn his Bachelor's degree from the University of Kansas, his Master's degree from Illinois State University, and his Doctor of Psychology (Psy.D.) from Baylor University, building the foundation for a lifelong career dedicated to healing, service, and human connection.

In 1995, Dr. Botkin developed Induced After Death Communication (IADC), a groundbreaking therapeutic method that emerged from his clinical work with trauma and grief. Though colleagues initially urged caution, concerned that sharing such an innovative approach might jeopardize his professional reputation, he chose to move forward because he believed deeply in the relief and transformation he witnessed in his clients. His courage and conviction allowed IADC to reach thousands of grieving individuals around the world and shaped the work of clinicians across generations. As public conversations about grief, continuing bonds, and emotional healing have evolved, the world has increasingly recognized the compassion and insight that guided his work from the beginning.

Those who knew Allan personally remember his warmth, humor, and unwavering love for his family. He brought laughter to gatherings, intellectual curiosity to conversations, and a deep sense of care to everyone he encountered. His legacy lives on in his family, the clinicians he trained, the clients whose lives were changed by his work, and the community committed to carrying his vision forward with integrity and heart.

He will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered.
