Allen “Al” George Kettner (1951-2026)

Allen George Kettner (age 74), from Burlington, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully at his daughter’s home in Appleton, Wisconsin, on March 18, 2026, following a 2-year battle with cancer. He lived a life of adventure seeing the country and being a devoted father and grandfather.

Allen was born in Green Bay, Wisconsin on December 17, 1951. The only child of George and Grace Kettner. He fondly remembered loving to fish with his dad on the Wolf River by the cabins and the campfire.

Allen graduated from Shiocton High School in 1970 where he played football, basketball and ran track. He started his working career right out of high school, working at the Combined Locks Paper Mill. He also played on the Combined Locks Mills softball team. He recalled having a lot of fun being on that team, even though they didn’t win very much. After a few years he switched career paths to become a truck driver, which he did for a total of 50 years. He started out as an over-the-road driver where he got to see 49 of states and Canada. The last 25 years of his trucking career, he drove locally for A & J Environmental Pallet Company. He retired in February 2024 after being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

Allen was a devoted and loving father to Kirsten Meidam, Sandra Kettner and Kayla Kettner and an exceptional grandfather to Cameron Meidam, Hunter Meidam, Adriana Kettner, Azara Kettner and Lovina Kettner.

He loved classic cars, watching sports (Packers, Brewers, Badgers), coin collecting, stock car racing (he actually owned a stock car back in the 70’s), cutting the grass, Butch’s Pizza and he couldn’t pass up a good corn dog at the county fair every year.

He took great pride in his family. After his daughter, Sandra, passed away in 2020, he took over Guardianship of his granddaughter, Azara. He sacrificed so much in his life to always make sure his family was taken care of. His children and his grandchildren meant the world to him.

Allen is preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace Kettner, daughter, Sandra Kettner, girlfriend Debra Hoffman, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and many beloved friends. He is survived by daughters, Kirsten (Brad) Meidam, Kayla (Kyle) Kettner and grandchildren, Cameron (Parker) Meidam, Hunter (Sarah) Meidam, Adriana Kettner, Azara Kettner and Lovina Kettner.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Moments Hospice. He really enjoyed talking to the ladies and he always made them laugh, while they really loved his sassiness. Thank you, Morgan, Lauryn, Emily, Leah, Jamie and Chaplin Jake. Also, thank you Deacon Jeff Hofacker from St. Edward’s Parish for coming to pray with him. To his friend, Steve , your help with everything you did for him, especially in his last weeks, was a blessing to him and his family. To his friends and family who reached out or came to visit him in his final moments, you have no idea how happy that made him. To all his relatives and Shiocton classmates, he wanted you to know how much you all meant to him.

In his last days he said “I had a good life, I’m lucky that way. I could not have asked for anything more”.

Allen’s wishes were to have a Celebration of life in in the Shiocton area, which will be announced at a later date.

Dad – Where do I begin? I want to thank you for trusting me enough to care for you in your last weeks. I’m not a nurse but you kept reassuring me how great of a job I was doing, even if at times I felt like I was failing. It was the hardest job I have ever been given but I would do it again if given the opportunity or if it meant you could have stayed just a little bit longer. I am grateful for being your daughter and for being able to do this for you and I learned so much about your life in your last weeks. I would give anything to hear another story or your voice, just one more time. My heart is shattered and I’m not sure how to move forward, but just you knowing that I loved you will hopefully provide me the strength I need to be able to. I am forever a changed person now that you are gone but I want you to know I will be ok. I will cherish memories of you until eternity. Take pride in those angel wings dad because you earned them. Until we meet again, I will miss you every day.
-Kirsten
