Alma Louise Ross was born on July 7, 1937, in Timmonsville, South Carolina, to the late John Ross Sr. and the late Pearlie Mae Morris Ross. Jesus called her home on Friday, December 26, 2025, but she remains here in the hearts of those who knew her and will forever love her.

Alma graduated from Johnson High School in her hometown in 1956 and moved to New York shortly thereafter. An avid learner, she received a Bachelor of Science from New York Institute of Technology in 1982 and a Master of Social Work from Adelphi University in 1987. She went on to become a New York State Certified Social Worker and a Licensed Master Social Worker. She dedicated her professional years to a career at Creedmoor Psychiatric Center, where she worked until she retired in 1996, at which time she was celebrated for her hard work and committed service.

Alma accepted Christ as Lord and Savior at a young age and was a charter member of Community Baptist Church, faithfully serving in many capacities for decades, among which were missionary, Sunday School teacher, AW Voices of Truth member, participant in the women's ministry of the Eastern Baptist Association, and instructor of the New Members Class. In recognition of God's call on Alma's life, Rev. Dr. Archie Witsell bestowed upon her a Missionary's License in 1998, an honor she humbly cherished and stewarded well. Her dedication to service extended beyond the church building into community service organizations.

Her commitment to the Word of God was evidenced by her coursework at, among others, The Manhattan Bible Institute (several courses); New Hope Deliverance Bible Academy of Jamaica, New York (Merit Award for Outstanding Performance); and York Christian International University, from which she received a Master of Religious Education in 2002.

Some of Alma's greatest joys were reading, talking, laughing and making others laugh, serving, attending church, and spending time with her family. She loved God, and she loved people.

Those closest to Alma's heart who have survived her are nieces and nephews she helped raise, Marion Ross, Adrienne Ross, Andrew Ross, and Alejandro Ramirez; sister-in-law, Jeanette Ross; great-niece, Storm Green; and great-nephews, Aaron Green and Alex Ramirez. She was preceded in passing by her parents; her brother, John Ross Jr.; and her sister, Mary Miller. She leaves behind godchildren, a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2026, from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. at Community Baptist Church, located at 111-08 141st St, South Ozone Park, NY, 11435. The Celebration of Life service will take place at 11:00 a.m. at the church. Interment at Pinelawn Memorial Park, located at 2030 Wellwood Ave., Farmingdale, NY 11735, will follow the service. All are welcome.
