Alvin C. Smith, lovingly known as "Frog," was born on December 31, 1952, in Gary, Indiana, to Joseph and Johnnie Mae Smith. He was the eleventh of thirteen children.
Alvin attended Horace Mann High School and proudly graduated with the Class of 1972. Shortly after graduation, he served his country in the United States Army. Upon returning home, he began a dedicated career with EJ&E Railroad, where he worked faithfully for 30 years.
In 1976, Alvin married the love of his life, Glenda Blue. Their union was blessed with two children, six grandchildren, and one great-grandson.
Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Johnnie Mae Smith; his daughter, Darneisha Smith; and his siblings, Jerry Joe, Lois, and Melvin.
He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted wife, Glenda Smith; his son, Alvin C. Smith, Jr.; his siblings, Alva Shannon, Cecilia Castleberry, Dudley Smith, Mary Caldwell, Alice Johnson, Clarence Smith, Clara (Willie) Banks, and John Smith; his beloved grandchildren, Cayenna, Arese, Dakota, Braylon, Elonnya, and Jordyn; and his great-grandson, Donye'. He also shared a special bond with his prayer partner and devoted sister, Clara Banks.
Alvin enjoyed a full and vibrant life. He had a passion for boxing, playing cards, and basketball. He was also a talented gardener who took pride in his work. Above all, he cherished spending time with family and friends. Known for his constant smile and playful sense of humor, Alvin was truly a jokester at heart.
Frog's spirit was filled with love and care, a presence so warm and genuine that it touched everyone around him. His kindness and joy were infectious, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him.
