Amalia, or Mayita as she was known, was born in Nogales, Az. to Gustavo and Amalia Benson. They later moved to Calexico, Ca. where she graduated from Calexico high school and married Hector Acosta, father of her 3 children; Lisa Ruanova, Marisabel Stacey and Hector (Torito) Acosta.
Mayita had a life long love of reading and worked at the high school library in Yuma Az. where her young family had relocated before she became a Certified Court Interpreter. She interpreted cases for the State of California and Arizona as well as Federal Superior Courts.
Mayita enjoyed travel to Mexico, Europe, Canada and the U.S.
She lived a full life for 85 years until she succumbed to complications from pneumonia.
She is survived by her 3 children and their Father, 9 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren, her brother Gustavo Benson Jr, and sister Elsa Corbera.
On December 26, 2025 Maya was reunited with her older brother Othon (Tony) Benson and Mother and Father, ascended into Heaven's Celestial Light.
