On the 25th of December 2025, Aminta Justine Schoofs completed her extraordinary century of life, passing peacefully in Portland, Oregon, with her family at her side.
Born in Tampa, Florida, on June 3, 1925, Aminta's life stretched across a hundred years of change, yet her heart remained rooted in what mattered most: faith, family, friendship, and a joyful curiosity about the world. A proud daughter of the Greatest Generation, she carried herself with quiet resilience and a generous spirit.
She shared 50 beautiful years with her husband, Jerry Schoofs, and together they raised a family that became her greatest pride. She leaves behind her children Liz, Mary Eileen, Tom and Erin; her son-in-law Fred; her grandchildren Matthew, Liam, and Gabrielle; and her sister Leila Justen. She joins in eternal rest her beloved Jerry and their son Bill.
Aminta loved music, especially the soaring beauty of opera. Classic films and musicals were also a lifelong delight, as were the many books that filled her shelves. Though San Diego was the home of her heart, she and Jerry delighted in exploring historical sites and visiting their children wherever life happened to take them.
She treasured people: conversation, laughter and shared stories. In her later years, she embraced tai chi, both practicing and teaching, finding peace in its gentle discipline. To those who knew her, Aminta was grace, warmth, and quiet strength. Her memory will remain a blessing.
Fulfilling her long-held wish, she will be reunited with Jerry at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego on February 2, 2026. All who knew and loved Aminta are welcome.
