Andrea Herbster- 86. Born Andrea Rochelle Friedman on December 15th, 1939 in Chicago, died December 22nd 2025 in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin. Andrea is survived by her two sons, Jason (Nancy) and Rory (Kelly), her 4 grandsons, Scott (Elizabeth), Kyle, Jack and Max and her sister Michelle Keller-Chong (Guillermo). Andrea was preceded in death by her loving husband Alfred. Andrea grew up in the West Rodgers Park neighborhood of Chicago the daughter of the owner of Friedmans Deli. She attended the University of Illinois and graduated from Roosevelt University with a degree in education. She began teaching in the Chicago Public Schools but put her career on hold to stay at home and raise her twin sons in Wilmette. She found great joy in being involved in their lives, whether it was serving as president of the PTA where the boys attended elementary school, sittng on the board of the Wilmette youth hockey organization, or just cheering the boys on at whatever sport they happened to be playing. As the boys grew, she returned to teaching, first as an aide in the Evanston Public Schools and later as a teacher of technology in the Waukegan Public Schools. In her later years she stayed active doing water aerobics with her “mermaids” , participating in Lifelong Learning programs including monthly discussions of the content of New Yorker magazine. She also found great joy in knitting “chemo caps”, which she would make and deliver to the cancer wards of local hospitals for their patients. A celebration of Andrea’s life will be announced at a later date. Donations in Andrea’s name can be made to Hospice Alliance in Pleasant Prairie, Wisconsin.
