Angel “Nanguele” Ortiz-Rojas, 73, passed away peacefully in his home on December 12, 2025, in Hartford, Connecticut. A beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend to many, Angel leaves behind a legacy of love, music, and unwavering devotion to his family and community.
Born on April 18, 1952, in San Juan, Puerto Rico , Angel was the son of Ambrosia Rojas and Rafael Ortiz. He grew up surrounded by a large and loving family that helped shape the values he carried throughout his life—faith, loyalty, and joy.
Angel proudly served in the National Guard for four years. Following his service, he dedicated over three decades of his life to the City of Hartford Public Works Department. For 33 years, he worked with diligence and pride until his retirement. His commitment to public service reflected his deep connection to the city he called home.
A man of deep faith and strong values, Angel was known for always having everyone’s back. His presence brought comfort and strength to those around him. Whether offering a helping hand or sharing a warm smile, he had a way of making people feel seen and supported.
Music was one of Angel’s greatest joys. He especially loved playing the congas with his family—a passion that brought rhythm and laughter into countless gatherings. He also found peace in landscaping, taking pride in creating beauty through nature.
Angel’s heart belonged to his family. He is survived by his devoted wife Aurora Ortiz; daughters Maya Ortiz-Baker, Evelyn Colon, and Ana Colon; sons Angel L. Ortiz and Jose Torres; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and many siblings who shared in his journey through life.
He was preceded in death by his parents Ambrosia Rojas and Rafael Ortiz; his son Angel R. Ortiz Jr.; and his brother Rafael Ortiz Jr.
A man who lived with joy and gave generously of himself, Angel “Nanguele” Ortiz-Rojas will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May his memory bring comfort to those who carry him in their hearts. A Celebration of Life will be held on December 27, 2025, from 02:00 PM to 06:00 PM at Knights of Columbus 1831 Main St East Hartford CT
