It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Angela Eugenia Sartori, who passed away peacefully at her home on March 19, 2026, at the age of 98, with family by her side.
Angela was born on November 15, 1927, in Bogno (Ticino), Switzerland, to Alfredo Moresi and Emilia Moresi (Camozzi). She was raised by her mother and her Aunt Virginia (Zia Punina), while her father had immigrated to America in search of a better life for their family. After 21 years apart, Angela and her mother joyfully reunited with him in the United States.
While studying English at Galileo High School in San Francisco, Angela met the love of her life, Sergio Sartori. They were married on June 7, 1952, at Saints Peter and Paul Church. The couple began their life together in the Marina District, where they welcomed their son, Dennis, in 1954, and their daughter, Linda, in 1956. The couple then purchased their first home in the Sunset District, where they raised their family together.
In 1965, Angela's parents decided to return to Switzerland. This was a difficult time for her, but it led to many cherished family vacations back to her homeland. After 26 happy years together, her beloved Sergio unexpectedly passed away in 1978, just as her kids were growing up and finding spouses of their own. But she was then blessed with her greatest joy of all: her grandchildren. Her time spent with them was full of love and laughter, filling the void in her heart.
Angela had a gift for bringing people together, she loved hosting gatherings for family and friends, especially for the holidays. She delighted in listening to her husband & son play the accordion over the years, especially when they performed at various Swiss Club events. She was also an amazing cook, making the most delicious foods that she learned from her favorite chef: her father. Her specialties included her beloved risotto alla Milanese, gnocchi, lasagna, and polenta with stew.
Angela took great pride in her Swiss heritage. She was a long-time member of the San Francisco Swiss Athletic Club and enjoyed their many events and outings with her friends. One of her happiest places in the world was her home in Bogno. She traveled there frequently until she was in her 90's, which led to many family vacations spent abroad with her Swiss relatives and friends. Once there, she loved traveling to European destinations, like Zermatt, Venice, Rome, Paris, and Lourdes.
In addition to her love of travel, Angela was an avid reader, an animal lover, and frequent theater-goer. She loved to sing and dance, especially to her old Ticinese and Italian songs. She was also a talented seamstress, having worked at I. Magnin for several years. She continued to sew and knit and loved making things for her grandchildren- from hats and scarves to Halloween costumes.
Angela is survived by her children: son, Dennis (Dan) Sartori and his wife, Joanne; and daughter, Linda Howard and her husband, Allan (Al). She also leaves behind her loving grandchildren: Danielle, Meghan, Caitlin, and Stephen and his wife, Jessica, as well as her great-grandson, Vito; and she will be missed by many family members, and close friends who felt like family, both here and in Switzerland.
We'd like to extend a very special and heartfelt thank you to Angela's amazing team of caregivers: Sylvia and Grace. They were her angels on Earth. Their care, kindness, and devotion allowed her to stay in her home until her passing. Many thanks also to the team at ANX Hospice who provided care and comfort.
A Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Gabriel's Church, followed by burial at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery, Colma.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her name to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or the American Heart Society.
